I pay $140 a month and any more dial-up seemed faster. When I call they always say there is a storm in the gateway!!

Tammy, weather at your gateway, which is usually not near your home, does indeed cause slower speeds and, even loss of connectivity. That is one of the unavoidable limitations of satellite internet service.

Congestion (a lot of users) on your beam can also result in reduced speed because each beam has a limited capacity and, if it's close to handling all of the connections possible, it gets a bit slower then.

If however you are experiences constant speeds below 3Mbps at all hours and, this lasts for days r weeks at a time, that should be investigated. Send an email with your account information and contact information as well as a request for slow speeds to be investigated to exedelistens@viasat.com and, they will be able to help you.

3 Mbps is slow but, that is DSL speed and, not below what I expect of Exede with congestion, if that's the best at ANY time on any day of the week, there may be a problem with alignment, cables or something else and, it should be investigated but, if that's peak congestion times, then that's probably okay.

That sounds like normal congestion. Afternoon, evening and, the free zone times are peak hours. Speeds are UP TO, so you won't get 25Mbps all of the time. Not only thing on Exede's end but, the server you connect to, who is doing what on your LAN and even the hops your connection uses to reach the destination server all have an effect.

No ISP can guarantee a given speed at all time, too may variables that are beyond their control.
