My data allowance started over today so I should not have any problems on Facebook. I am also having most photos missing and it just keeps twirling like it's been slowed down. My videos are set so they do not auto play so what is going on????

I did a speedtest, and my DL is terrible. The UL was faster. Never saw that before... But it's prime time....

I can't see pictures on Facebook.  No problem seeing pics on any other site that I noticed. It started getting flaky a few weeks ago, then got to where now I go to Facebook and can't see any  photos at all.  I'm not on  data restriction for sure. I'm suspicious that the media servers used by Facebook are not playing well with Exede.

For those new to Exede and satellite internet, welcome to the holiday crunch period where bandwidth demand outpaces bandwidth capacity particularly during the peak hours of 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM (i.e. congestion as ViaSat puts it).

Although not a heavy Facebook user, I have been utilizing it a bit more over the past week or so in search of a senior Lab to occupy an empty bowl that's now available (one of the hazards of dealing with older, retired or abandoned dogs - always sad losing them, but always rewarding for the few years they're here).

FWIW, I haven't had any noticeable problems in loading some Facebook pages that are heavily loaded with pictures and videos.

However, I'll attribute that to some extra-ordinary measures taken to eliminate any unwanted bandwidth consumers on all web sites. While I cant control the amount of shared bandwidth consumed by anybody else or the number of new devices and toys coming online since Black Friday,  I can control mine enough to keep things running smoothly during peak periods.

To do that, you really need to know where and how your data is being consumed often without your knowledge in the background and to do that you need to install a robust traffic monitoring application that will provide insight at the the machine and application level to isolate hosts (web sites) that may be unwittingly consuming your bandwidth. Without knowing what's happening, where and how much it's all guesswork in eliminating unwanted bandwidth hogs.

Bandwidth shouldn't be confused with speed despite how its measured, it's a measure of capacity and things slow down during rush hour but there are some things that can be done to make your commute more enjoyable. Bandwidth is more akin to the speed limit or maximum speed on your speed meter (and there only a few controlled circumstances where I'd ever hit 120 mph in my truck).

I can't offer any recommendations for anything other than Windows 7, 8.1 or 10 - but for those Networx and Glasswire provide the level of detail necessary and for ease of use I give a big edge to Glasswire.

Once you know where it's going, recommendations can be made to minimize it.

If nothing else, GlassWire generally puts to rest the ubiquitous "No way I've used that much data" complaints - yes way,  unless you've got an install/modem problem which is always a possibility.

Thank you Shirley and you didn't get the new modem we released a month or so ago correct? I've been trying to pinpoint the issue to help our team fix it.

I noticed on FB I sent a picture to each of my daughters. Later checked to see if they were on daughter's site. They weren't. Today they were there. Also today on right hand side  of page a whole column fo different games and don't know what nonsense. Wasn't there the other day so don't know what FB is doing.

To Old Labs so sorry for loss of your dog. We loss our black cocker spaniel Sept.11 this year. He was 9 years old and had liver failure but we still miss him. We do have buff colored cocker spaniel she is 3.

Excede is lying to us Facebook still doesn't work in the evenings even  and now we no longer have the free download zone. customer service told me that if i went over my speed would not drop to less then 5 gigs and that's a lie too. I'm going to cancel my service.

It turns out many in my community on Exede have this problem. Pics don't load on FB and it's worse than dial up. I can't wait to get rid of this internet service.

I am experiencing the same connectivity issues described by the other users. No one has told me about a new modem. I have been a customer for many years, probably one of your originals.

As Exede Brad notes above send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com including your account and contact information and a subject line of Facebook Error Forum Request.

It's not impacting everyone and they're trying to establish a pattern for those who are experiencing the problem. They can't associate your profile here with your actual Exede account unless you send the email.

Sorry to bump this thread back up, but for those that haven't emailed us. As of now (this moment...not meaning last night or this morning) are you still having issues with loading facebook? I'm working with our Network Operations Center and trying to see if the issue has been fixed

It's not because I can turn the WiFi off on my phone and use my Verizon Internet and facebook works perfect.

Although unlikely, it's still a remote possibility. Facebook has multiple servers spread out across the nation (and globe).

When using Exede the server being used depends on what beam/gateway you're assigned to (as well as the Accelenet server your gateway uses). The beam/gateway you're using can be determined from the map located at:

http://www.northlc.com/_images/beam_priority_map.png

For example, I'm in Virginia yet all of my traffic goes through the Lovelock Nevada gateway and subsequently the Salt Lake City Accelenet servers. After a bunch of different hops after that I wind up hitting the FaceBook servers in Menlo Park, CA. For all intents and purposes, I reside in Salt Lake City for internet use. Determining the Accelenet server is a little trickier requiring the use of a trace route utility. On Windows you can issue tracert facebook.com at the command prompt - the 5th or 6th hop gives some indication of your Accelenet server if you're familiar with airport codes it seems. Disregard it's slow speed all the timeouts (they aren't really what you might think they are).

If I were to use a local Verizon connection, I'd likely be hitting the FaceBook servers in Ashburn, VA.

Different paths, different results...

I suspect this is an issue between your assigned Accelenet server and the FaceBook server you actually hit, could be either or both at this point from what I see here.

No skin off my back... that's a solution too!

P.S. Have you tried calling the phone number Exede Brad provided over in the following when it occurs?

https://community.exede.com/exede/topics/why-cant-i-see-images-or-video-on-facebook

They're trying to catch it in the act and it's important to call when it occurs (not before, not after) if it's a big concern.

It amazes me how many people talk about quitting their Exede internet and move to another provider. That to me would indicate that they probably should not be getting their internet from a satellite provider to begin with. or me, I have only two providers available, and Exede is by far the better choice. Just my thoughts.

I agree with you Steve. When first got satellite internet my choice was dial-up and you could pay monthly bill and not get online at all. Unlimited data turned into  6 GB a day and that was it!!!! So at time was no Exede just Wildblue. Got that when got DirectV. But then Wildblue got congested and Exede had come out so switched to  Exede. I'm very happy with Exede. But always wondered about these people that going to quit Exede and go to another provider. Like you thought Exede was for people couldn't get internet from other source.

Duh there's Hughes net and dish net and AT&T is about to launch a satellite Internet service. But I'm sure they all suck just as much as excede does.

Cecil, there is Exede and Hughesnet. Dish net does not actually have satellite internet, but resells either Exede or Hughesnet under their name. I have not yet heard any plans by AT&T to launch a satellite for internet service, but if they do, it will be in the future.

AT&T Satellite Internet

"AT&T now provides satellite Internet service, which is available to customers in many areas where broadband service was previously unavailable. The company provides its satellite service through WildBlue, a company that also provides satellite Internet independently."
