Please see this thread: https://community.exede.com/exede/topics/viasat-2-satellite-update-new-satellite-is-on-its-way

That's likely all we will hear until it reaches final orbit in about October, then there is testing and such to be done for a few months. It won't be capable of providing service until after Christmas and, not actually in service until early 2018, assuming everything goes according to plan and, there are no unforeseen problems.

Austin, exactly what website are you referring to? The official Exede.com does not indicate anything like that.

If it was on this community forum, then it wasn't posted by any of the ViaSat/Exede employees.

I believe Computer1949 is referring to the Exede Blog about Viasat 2 found here:

I think it has been indicated it would be capable of 100Mbps, but my guess is they would want to deliver a minimum target of 25Mbps to be classified as "broadband internet". Of course that woud be the "up to speed", but that target would be what only select customers can get today.

Thank you Briman. Some of us have been customers for a long time, we've more or less learned the ins, outs and, probably dealt with most of the possible problems with satellite internet service ourselves.

We Champions are subscribers, just like you. We want to make this satellite internet thing as painless as we can for our peers, so here we are. :)

Thanks Diana, very neat.  This shows the location of V2 and many other satellites. Also shows how many objects are passing above me right now....1540... yikes!  Very cool website. Just what us space geeks like.   http://www.n2yo.com/?s=37843
