Verry odd software update on modem

That modem software update was odd in the way the modem behaved. I have the SB2, non wifi modem. First it simply dropped DHCP, didn't show me that it was downloading software, so I power cycled, thinking it was a connectivity problem.

Modem rebooted, then ALL 4 lights flashed in unison, still nothing on the modem status page indicating a software download. I power cycle again - it can be temperamental. This time, when it came back up, it told me "Starting Software Download" on the status page. Okay that's fine but, the top light and bottom two were all solid, no flicker at all during the download while the second light was flashing rapidly.

It's fine now, just never seen it behave like that with a software update before. Is that the norm for UT_3.7.3.9.2 ?

Considering that I also have UT_3.7.3.9.2 and I didn't experience anything like this, I would be inclined to believe that what you experienced isn't normal.  You might want to go to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 (Gibson Research Corporation Shields Up test) and make sure that it shows all of your TCP ports as stealth.

I just went to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 myself and saw that my IP address now has a reverse DNS whereas before it didn't.  However, the only additional information a hacker would gain is that the IP address belongs to Exede and that Exede has set up that IP address for use by its customers.  Likely, a determined enough hacker could have previously found that information through other means.

All of my TCP ports still show up as stealth and that is the most critical item and the one that you want to focus on.

Whatever happened, my modem is toast. Cell only until I get a new modem. With me having to be out of town all next week, that may be a while. Trying to get something done today or tomorrow but, not looking good.

None, because the "technician" that came to my home was total trouble so, no new modem. I'll deal with the one I have if it acts up again - not risking my safety or belongings over internet service again.
