No one on this forum can "upgrade your modem to the latest wifi modem! You need to call customer support and ask them to upgrade your modem, and then they will advise you of your options.

Donald, you can also go to the Exede Dashboard, and click on "Change my Plan". If the Wi-Fi modem is available in your area, you can upgrade online. Be aware, it will cost you more to have the Wi-Fi modem/router. You will really be better off with the original Surfbeam 2 modem that you already have. Exede updates the software in them regularly.

Hmmm...I went from a Freedom 10 plan to their 150 GB plan + Wifi+Boost....just to see if I noticed a difference...nothing...no new modem..thought I was getting one, but nothing arrived??!! I was going thru 10 GB in less then 14 days...$80 month...and now that I'm at $130. a month, I haven't used 8 GB and have days remaining...doesn't make sense to me...but I figured I would go with their BEST plan and see what I get for speed etc...nothing changed... when I tried to contact them, nothing...I'm a working person and don't have time to sit on the phone and wait...their chat, well, with great internet connections you may get to chat, but...lol...I get bumped offline so the chat goes away...just hope the FCC steps in and helps us Country people get Internet like the City people do...only fair. I pay more in the sticks for non working internet and slow dial up like speeds then I do in my house in the City...what is that about?? and never run out of usage...this is IMO only.

I'm not trying to pick on you I'm just addressing your comment.  Only fair?  For who?  So you want the government to force a private company to give you Internet service at a great financial loss?  Just who is supposed to pay for you to get what you think you deserve for living in the country?  What it's about is in town you have terrestrial based internet and Excede is satellite based Internet.

The amount of bandwidth on a satellite service is much smaller than what you get in town because their costs for putting the satellite in space and your satellite modem and satellite dish are many times more expensive than just putting a cable modem in your house that is already wired for service or a cheap wifi antenna on your roof.  Your comparing apples and oranges here.

Fact of the matter is that you do have a choice in the matter.  If you have a house in the city and a house in the country then you are probably not a poor person.  You can choose to do without Internet service at your country house or simply make the best of it with what is available.  Nobody is holding a gun to your head making you pay for this.  You can get the kind of internet service off of satellite that you get in town but in that case it would be an enterprise type system with guaranteed bandwidth on demand but your going to pay $1000 a month or more for it.  So there is your choice.

This is like any other service out there.  You can choose to have it or choose not to have it.  If you choose to have it then don't complain that you can't get it as cheap as you want.  I apologize for seeming harsh with my comments and I don't mean it at all in a personal manner it's just that Internet service isn't an entitlement.  If you want it you pay the going price just like if you are going to the Dentist or having the local mechanic work on your car.

I think the general feeling around here is Exede is selling bandwidth that they don't have. The new Freedom plans should have been held until the new satellite was checked out and running. Perhaps they didn't thing folks would jump for the Freedom plans as fast as they did.
