Unlimited silver is not unlimited!!!

Was wondering why my internet was running slow until I read the fine print saying when you exceed 150 on the UNLIMITED Silver plan, they prioritize my data. Which means basically I can get this message out...and that’s about it. No Netflix. No videos at all

I wouldn't complain too much. You are grandfathered in on an older plan that doesn't exist anymore. The newer Silver Unlimited is only 60 GB.

You just realized this? 150GB of priority data is pretty good. Hughesnet offers "unlimited" plans with as little as 10 or 20 GB of priority data. A Viasat Silver plan today offers just 60GB of priority data.

I would consider yourself lucky you get 150GB priority data. It could be a lot worse.

On the same silver 150 plan but I don't think i have used more than 90G in a month, For three years I was on the old 25G classic.  Like the folks who grew up during the depression, they knew how to stretch a dime. 

By the way, Windows 10, 1803 is a big update.

Reference the Windows 1803 update, definitely do this one during the Free Zone.

Estimate, i didn't check but 2.5 to 3 Gig.

Last year people complained that 12 GB wasn't enough data.  This year people complain that 150 GB isn't enough data.  Nothing to see here, move along.

If you want to get technical about it ALL Viasat plans are unlimited and always have been. Sure, your speeds might be slower after you use a certain amount of data in a month but, you can still use data after that. Viasat doesn't disconnect your service when you reach your cap. Some types of plans are slowed more than others but, they're all technically unlimited or, as the competition says "no hard data limit."

You are 110% correct about that.

The term "unlimited" is a marketing gimmick attached to plans because of the stigma of the hard caps satellite internet use to have. Now it us just a soft cap.

Very true. The term "unlimited" has been all but neutered by companies like Viasat and Verizon. When a potential customer comes in the store and they hear us say "unlimited", the FIRST thing out of their mouths is "yeah, but how much data do I REALLY get". I have seen customers speeds get "prioritized" down to under 256k...actually saw one go all the way down to just over 100k. At these speeds, customers get frequent "page can be displayed" or "internet connection reset" screens on their computers.

And that just upsets the customers, gives Viasat a bad name, and dealers have to take the brunt of it too.

I've used 170 GB of data for the month and my cycle restarts tomorrow.  I'm on a Liberty 12 plan.  I pretty much consider it unlimited as well.

Verizon Unlimited caps at 22 Gb. Verizon hotspot Unlimited caps at 11 Gb. ATT Unlimited has a cap too. Viasat is not the only one wordsmithing the definition of unlimited.

I came here from Verizon and am on the Silver 25 150 plan and am happy so far. No change in sight for me.

Unlimited hotspot caps at 15GB on my Verizon plan. 600kbps after that. Still faster than ViaSat some evenings.

Hello Jesse, There are no limits to how much data you can use during your monthly billing cycle.  For unlimited Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum plans, after 40, 60, 100, or 150 GB of data usage, respectively, we may/will prioritize your data behind other customers during network congestion, which will result in slower speeds.

As Bev said above, technically there has never been any limits to how much data you can use.

Now, the speed at which you can use it after going over your data allotment can change, depending on the plan you have.

Unfortunately, the best advice still is to stay under your priority data allotment, no matter what the plan is called. Otherwise, you may have performance issues.

Bottom line: get a plan that offers the most priority data you can afford OR get one with a free zone to manage how much priority you use. Neither the Bronze or Silver plans that Viasat offers today really do that. Gold, Platinum, or Liberrty is your best bets, if you can get or afford them.

I think most of the complaints about the unlimited data come from the salespeople assuring customers that they can watch Netflix after they exceed their data cap. I actually have data left over each month now that I am trying to conserve. data. I  put a timer on my modem  so that it is off when I am not at home and strangely enough I have a lot more data at the end of the month. It seemed that I was using data even when no one was using the internet. I have to say that compare to ATT DSL this is far superior.

You are correct in what the salespeople say. To causally watch Netflix or Prime with priority data is fine. To be a cord cutter and get Directv Now is NOT going to work.

I realize that but what I don't understand is why the new Silver Unlimited on Viasat 2  is LOWER; at only 60 GB? Yes it is supposedly bigger faster with virtually no users yet?
