Trouble with Free Zone

I'm lucky now if I get a connection of .2-.4m download with a ping of 2200ms ping time after midnight. Now my internet is useless at night as well as during the day. Lucky me I still have over a year left on my "lietract". Thanks for the crap service exede.

1am and still no free zone. Great can't use it during day or night. Exede sucks!

Well im not up that late anyway most of the time.so the free zone they call it doesn't matter to me that much,what im so upset about is my daytime usage.

Worst service I've ever seen, been intereneting since 96 and have never seen such a rip off. Will be contacting the FCC and I encourage everyone with exede problems to also do the same till someone listens.

Same here had trouble using the free zone time too, figure everyone is using it then too cause of all the problems we are having

I'm a new Exede customer,,, I paid my first month and my I'm getting The 10 with the free 10 which adds up to 20 and used it up in 2 days! Impossible I said, they assured me I was wrong.. So until my new billing cycle I was told to use the free zone...It doesn't work!! I read all these complaint, and have realized I made a huge mistake by using this company.... I tried to get windstream, but was told they didn't service my area...I'm stuck for sure..

Tina, don't know if you have the time to do this, but if I were having these problems you are having I would be emailing and calling Exede at every opportunity to describe my problem and tell them I need help with it...When I first signed up for exede a few weeks ago, I had 2 distinct problems that needed correction...I wound up calling exede probably a total of 5 times...got cut off a few times...one time stayed on hold a long time...then got someone who told me the Exede voice office had just closed and I would need to call back the next day...Oh, yes, i do think customer service has issues that need to be worked on.  But I kept calling and got my 2 problems corrected, and haven't had any problems since.  For example, if your free zone isn't working, seems like that has to be such an obvious problem that exede won't miss seeing it when you report that...and they may be able to correct that quickly.  Did you happen to ask the techs what kind of usage could result in 20 gb being used in 2 days, so that you could determine whether there is any possibility that any of your usage could have been more than you realized?  (I am not saying all of it was on your end --not at all-but this is how you can begin to investigate the problem).  and you keep calling and calling and asking for more and more info...
3 yrs ago when I had hughesnet--my first time having satellte internet-I  lost all my data in 2 days without any idea how that could have happened...customer service was no help so I did some research online and eventually figured out it was automatic updates going on in the background.  another time it was tabs I had left up on my browser...where behind the tabs were certain videos which not only auto played, but also did continuous loops and kept replaying over and over, unless the tab was completely closed!  that right there is like a continuous media stream which can eat up a LOT of data since it can go on indefinitely...other people have discovered problems due to devices being synchronised where the devices kept sync'ing all the time all day long, eating up data every time they did this...and then there is cloud synchronization if you have any clouds you are using and set to synchronize...and the list goes on as more + more software, devices and gimmicks are introduced.Facebook's synchronizations and auto updates are causing data usage problems for some people.
the good news is that all of these data hogging mechanisms can be reset or controlled or stopped so the problem ceases.  and once you get all this stuff under control you can just use your internet and not have all these problems, which was what happened in my case.

Yep exede is the worst service provider I've ever had. I'm stuck for another year with their wonderful contract.

The people that want Exede to go to unlimited data need to read this carefully. The satellite beams only have certain bandwidth. You would have hundreds of people  on your beams streaming Netflix continuously and your internet would be unusable almost all the time. The wee hours of the morning would probably be the only time you COULD use it. Our old Wildblue was overloaded and was almost unusable during primetime, even with data limits.

David, you are so right. That was proven about 18 months ago when Exede was having metering problems, and they had turned off the meter for a month or two. People were streaming all kinds of stuff, loading down the beams to the point where speeds during the day and evening would drop to 2 or 3 Mb/s, way off the speeds of 12 to 18 Mb/s we had been getting. It would be much worse now, back 18 months ago Exede only had around 300,000 subscribers, now that number is over 650,000 subscribers.

I also remember those days in 2008 and 2009 when Wilblue Classic was oversold, speeds were down to 150 Kb/s, that on the plan that was supposed to have 1 Mb/s.

That is why the Exede folks are being more cautious in offering the higher caps to everyone, until they are sure they have enough bandwidth to take care of everyone.

Hey Mitch, I am awfully surprised you arent willing to keep  trying to get your problem fixed...sounds like you give up pretty easily for something that is upsetting you enough to complain like this.

It's a crap service Lorrie when paying $60 a month for a service that they suggest you only use it from 12am-5am. My service slows to .1mbps from 6pm to 5am everyday. We run an online business that we can' t work with in the evenings when most of our customers are contacting us and my daughter can't even do the homework that she is required to do online. So forgive me if i'm not as happy go lucky with this service as some of you all "exede praise fans". Only one more of this "bs" contract and I can get rid of this crap even if I have to go without internet. We have pretty much already lost our entire business because of the service we can't give our customers, excuse me if I hate exede and will let everyone I come in contact know what a piece of crap this service is.
