Not a customer yet, but I plan to be if viasat ever offers Truely unlimited data...does anyone know if this may happen under this new satellite. We would use 150 pretty5 fast with 3 teens and Netflix. thanks

I was hopeful. We dont have any internet this time, the cable company stops service about a mile from our home.

It is truly unlimited but they bring your speeds down dramatically once you hit 150. It becomes almost unusable during peak times (for us, it's between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.). I have two teenagers and one preteen and they use all of the 150 within two weeks. We stream a lot of movies and shows from Netflix and my daughter does YouTube live stream. I had truly unlimited with U-verse. But we moved out into the middle of the woods and satellite internet is our only option. I'm not 100% satisfied with it but it is better than nothing.

Waiting for things to get better is not in the contract and not what customers @re paying for.. There is no unlimited service. Selling something you don't have is illegal. When my service stopped working not one rep. tried to find out why or make it right after 2 & 1/2 months waiting for you a tech they finally told me they have no one to come out here to fix it. They still took money for 3 months for service they knew I didn't have. They never had any intention of getting service LOL back on without telling me. I never got my money back nut they were generous enough to wave early termination fees. THEY TERMINATED SERVICE NOT ME. Since I can't go on my roof anymore I had to hire someone to take down the equipment or I would be billed $350. If I want to set up service as new customer I'll bet they would find a way to get someone. They have cost me a lot of money the loss of some of my customers ended up costing.me a few thousands $$. I have filed complaints & talked to a lawyer to get some or all my money back since Viasat would only CREDIT my account $25. I FONT HAVE AN ACCOUNT

Sounds like you just need to sign up for one of the unlimited plans and teach everyone how to manage their data.  

They can either have no high speed internet at all, or manage what they have.  

Here  is a suggestion, sign up and make sure the plan you select is Gold 50 or the Platinum plan.  This will automatically put you on Viasat 2.  This bird is brand new and not congested yet.

After a month or so, drop down to a Bronze or Silver plan.  You will still be on the latest satellite and will save a little money.

The Bronze and Silver plans limit video quality and this will help conserve your data as well.  They stream in 320p and 480p.  The video quality isn't HD, but it will help you conserve data and is certainly better than dialup.

The Gold and Platinum plans are for streaming HD video in 720p and 1080p.   Naturally these plans have better video, but will use your priority data faster.

I made a mistake in the info I posted.  The Bronze plan is for 360p video, not 320p.   Still low quality video, but better than what I originally mentioned.

This is my usual go-to when someone is thinking about coming to satellite service. The big takeaway is that it's not going to be the same experience as Cable internet unfortunately. Some aspects of the technology such as the bandwidth limit (aka why we deprioritize after a certain amount or had caps prior on older plans and why there's video resolution) or the Ping rate are limitations of the technology that won't change with the satellite. Some things like Ping will never go away unless we figure out how to surpass the speed of light.

What bad said is true.  It is a sad reality, but if you are coming here expecting super duper unlimited data like you had with cable, you will never be satisfied no matter how hard Viasat tries.

Its horrible to say this, but you would probably consider Viasat 2, the latest and greatest in satellite technology, to be a major downgrade compared to what you are used to.

Stay away!! If everything works as stated, which is possible, then great. If you have serious problems, speed, tech support, and you cancel for cause, they'll charge the early disconnect free anyway. They are the worst company I've dealt with ever, period. Speeds sucked and tech was way worse.

Yes. Those speeds are not bad. I have seen speeds like that or even worse during Primetime since Exede's inception. I have survived and nothing I haven't been able to do.

Welcome to the mile short club. We are in the same boat. However, we don't have cell service either, so we have no choice.

I would think that having 150 gigs would be better than no internet at all? It really isn't too bad. You can stream relatively regularly and not use it all if you are carefull. Keep it at 480p and it stretches it quite a bit.

The new plans with 100 gigs are a bit thin, hopefully they will up that.

It is expensive for what you get, but that is the cost of country living.

So true it is expensive but I had wildblue years ago and it was not that good this service is so much better than that hopefully we will get some more gigs and speed with the new plans like they promised we will just have to wait.I have lived in the country for 35 years now so I am used to us being ignored as far as technology is concerned.At our office 5 miles from here we can get cable but not here that is the way it goes not fair.

Very true on the paid price Viny. I chose not to go with the service. It was to overpriced for what you get. I'll stick with my cell data for now. I'm thinking that within a year their prices will come down a bit. I keep reading how people are shell shocked at the price per gig. I messed up and didn't get on the liberty plan with the free pass. Whoever has those better stay on them.

If Satellite Internet is your only alternative, then Viasat is your best bet.

That is for sure.  I know folks who were screwed into Hughsnet by Dish.  They thought it came with the Dish plan and had to take it.  Now they can't even get their wi-fi calling to work and the data runs out quickly, etc., etc.

Viasat is great for those of us with no other options, it isn't perfect, but it's come a long way.

And I'll be keeping my silver unlimited for a while.

I too have the silver unlimited plan wifi with my boost. My speed aren't bad but we'll see what they offer here shortly for mbps and prices!

DON'T DO IT !!!
Sales team will lie to you and then your stuck with 2 year contract.
If you have cell service at your home your better off useing it, even if you got to take the hit by using Tethering mode on phone to a laptop.It will still be faster then this.
I have the Silver Unlimited. Its been one week today, since installed and have yet to be able to stream. I can barely check email sometimes. sometimes nothing. been this way since day one.
Speed test show 0.5 to 3Mbps now. Made several phone calls. I get from them, that the 25Mbps speeds is not a guaranty and my speeds still fall in the normal category. 
I have Emailed Viasatlistens 4 days ago and got 1 response asking for more account info, that's it. 

Use google and look at their Reviews on sites they can't delete post on or have people trying to cover for them.  99% bad also trying to get a class action lawsuit going on some Fed sites.

You had an installer do a half ass job. It's a 90 day warranty on installations. Get them back out there.

Actually I had the Liberty 25 before (it worked just fine) and when the new modem for unlimited showed up, it wouldn't get a signal. Installer had to come out and move the dish to get it to pick up a signal. Gets a 9db return now before it was a 0db. Kinda sounds like the new modems are under powered IMO.

This is my 3rd Satellite internet provider.  I had Dishnet at first.  It was good for out here but I was spending a ton going over data cap.  I then moved to HughesNet Business class.  It was not as fast but the data plan was adequate for me (I work from home and online 15 hours a day).  It was very expensive.  I am now on Viasat on a silver 25 Unlimited.  Its early days but the speed has been good.  I have streamed more than I ever could with the other two providers but I have been keeping an eagle eye on my usage just to be sure I can work during the week.  As everyone has said, its not anything like having cable internet but if you live literally in the middle of nowhere its livable.  I would suggest though if you have any neighbors around you on Viasat talk to them.  Your experience has a lot to do with congestion and your position in relation to the satellite.
