  • Under Consideration
With these plans we a forced to use up priority data for surfing etc where speed is not all that necessary. I would like to be able to specify whether or I want to use priority data or not for my  current session. And of course if we are out of priority data it doesn't apply.

I've always felt the same way.  I am on a Liberty 12 plan, which works pretty dang good for me, but I would be happy if I could lower my speed to 1 mbps if it meant preserving my priority data to use during prime time or when I have company.

I'm kinda thinking  it might be a problem administering the changes in priority but, if we can do it through the customer portal, I believe it is possible.

I'm able to do exactly what you both want, and more, and I don't even need to have ViaSat (Exede) do anything on their end.  What I do is run Windows in a virtual machine under VMWare Workstation.  With VMWare Workstation 10 or later, you can change the maximum allowed speed of your virtual network adapter anytime you want and even if the virtual machine is running.  I keep my maximum speed at 150 kbps (about 3X dial up) for everyday internet activities and open the throttle only when I want to download a large file or do system updates.  Works great.

I can do that too using the settings in my router but its still going to pull from my priority data.

I think this would be a neat feature to have but I can imagine it would be a nightmare for Viasat to implememt. What I currently have is good enough and I have a feeling we wont even be thinking about priority data once Viasat 2 goes live.

If you are correct, I’ll be the biggest fanboy on here for a while. If it doesn’t work out that way, I’m preparing the troll mode now.
