Well guess not going any place. Just found out all they were doing is taking pre-registration. They don't even know what area they are going to sign people up for. What a rip. So guess you are stuck with me. Can't trust anyone anymore.

What makes me so mad is that they called me on phone saying they were doing the fiber optic here.  I just don't like being lied to. But the good part is will still be here with friends. Gets frustrating sometimes but hye a lot faster than dial up no matter how slow. :-)

If you are really set on having good speeds all the time, it is almost necessary to have two dishes and modems.

If a subscriber is in one of the congested beams, having two dishes will cost you twice as much per month, and provide you with two internet connections operating at slow speeds.

I am fortunate enough to be in a beam that is not congested, and have enjoyed speeds of 12 to 19 Mbps while I am in my priority data mode. Naturally, while on the Pass, my speeds are in the 1 to 5 Mbps range, only dropping to 500 Kbps on a few occasions during the evening prime time period.

HMC, hang in there. You may be fortunate enough to get that high speed fiber in the future. For me, Time Warner has been promising to extend their service the additional mile to  my house, and my neighbors, for over 25 years now, but so far, not a single foot of cable has been placed.

In the mean time, Exede has been a wonderful ISP for me.

We enjoy having you around in the meantime HMC! I do understand the frustration though.

It sounds like they may be gauging interest to expand. Was it a DSL or cable service?

Hi There it's cable service. Something about getting funds from government to bring internet to rural area's. We live out in farm country we don't even have cell phone signal. Lucky if you get one little bar . But can text part of the time.  But hey we love living on our corner with closest house about 1/4 mile away and nothing but farm land.

Same here.  Unfortunately, sometimes we have to give up some things in order to be able to live where we do.  I would love to be able to stream on a regular basis like so many other people can and do.  I can just imagine the films and old TV shows I would watch.  Still, though, I wouldn't give up where I live for that ability.

Hi HMC - I'm on the N.E. side of the State from you, deep into Amish country. They are great neighbors but technicalogically impaired, haven't even paid their phone bill in 3 hundred years. So no one is going to lay cable out here. I have the Freedom 25/150 plan about a month now and I'm quite pleased with it . Speed wise I hardly ever get anything near the 25mbps, usually 2 to 6 mbps. But I can stream audio and watch a movie occasionally. I had Verizon home internet which had great speed and lag times but their best plan was 30 gigs and coast more then Exede 150 plan. Before that I had Wild Blue and that was the pits. So I guess Exede is about the best we can hope for now.

We 3 have a lot of Amish around us also. Well just found out may get the fiber optic after all in 3 or so months. Also when we came home from town on about every post going off one road onto another blacktop road was a stapled poster saying "HIGH SPEED INTERNET for this county(were Montcalm County). They were not there when we went to town but sure are when we come home. Even have one across the street on the big electric pole. WHAT IS GOING ON!!  Says broadband. EXEDE 616-419-6513

Helen, those signs are placed there by a local dealer that sells Exede in your area. They appeared in my area of rural NY state about a year ago.

They just started being put up today. Someone must have got a dealership. When I got Exede had Wildblue and there wasn't hardly any satellite dishes around. Still not many. The small towns can get internet and cell phone signal. Where we are your lucky if you get enough cell signal to send a text and sometimes not even that. Not complaining. :-) .

I have a sizable Amish community near me in Western, NY.  Nice people.  My mother, who is a newly retired Family Nurse Practitioner, actually made house calls for them for the last three or four years of her career.  I think she wishes SHE was Amish.  LOL.
