Someone explain how I can be out of data on the 12th of the month. 18G plan; no streaming - no movies, no TV, no music, no UTube. News junkies, and some solatgaire, Candy Crush, and WWF. How??? 2 laptops (mine has used 4.33G since the 1st) and one Fire- for reading. Help me. We've already upped our plan once and this is the worse month ever.

THEY TRULY SUCK! I am going to  Hughes - at least when you do run out of Data you get a FREE token each month to add more or you can BUY Tokens (A LOT CHEAPER!) I was going through data like crazy, and I went back to my OLD ROUTER, that seemed to work. Also If your cell phones are on, they'll also be using up your data.

Hi Patricia,

I can look into this for you if you email us at exedelistens@viasat.com or if you call us at 855-463-9333 we'll be able to look at the usage.

Some common things. You mentioned WWF are you guys on the network? If so that will eat data as quickly as Netflix would if you use it for PPVs or watching old content. Also a lot of news sites will play a video automatically even if it's a story you're trying to read. Those could easily be the culprit but we won't know unless we look at the data usage.

It's simple, like me you used all of your data (mine ran out yesterday). Although I have a lower 10GB cap, a lot more devices connected and probably more background services sucking data, so you might have a leech or two on your network. Look on your router's CP for a list of connected devices and change your password and/or use tighter encryption if you notice anything strange.

The page should look similar to this, and it should be at 192.168.2.1 or something close to that (mine is at 10.0.0.1 because I configured my router to use 10.0.0.x). Also, an SSID like mine would make your neighbors a lot more reluctant to steal your internet connection.

I don't have a router. Our Excede modem has an integrated route.r.

Regardless, there should be a control panel. When I was on Charter in Alabama, they gave us a router/modem combo (which I promptly flashed DD-WRT on) and it had an easily-accessible panel. There might be a URL you can go to instead of finding your default gateway and typing that in, look for a sticker on your router.

Every month for me!  Around the 12-15 I run out of data.  We can't watch Neflix or anything that downloads.  All we really do is email, Facebook and go to web pages. I so dislike Exede!!!!  I would rather pay more for a flat usage........

Unfortunately that's not likely to ever happen without some form of throttling to maintain QoS. There's only so much Exede can do with that satellite once it's in space, and sending someone out there to upgrade it would cost millions. Satellite companies quite honestly don't have the resources to accommodate all of their customers downloading heavily at all hours of the day.

So what you'd end up with is dial-up speeds at much higher prices.

Been in the same boat as Patricia/Joanne/Becki/Jeanne. I understand your frustration. I was a Hughes customer for twelve years. I think maybe when the first satellite went up. Upgraded to Gen4 (it was better). Over the last two years speed fell to less then 1Mbps any where near prime time. Been an Exede customer for three months. The speeds are excellent. Initially we were frustrated with how Exede measures data versus Hughes. Been learning a lot with help from Exede and digging on my own. Here are some lessons learned to date. ONE - If you run iOS (that would be Apple) and iCloud is turned on, Apple delights in using your WiFi to sync files, do updates and full system backups. TWO - If you run DirecTV and it is connected to the internet be careful when you manage recordings. For example if you set a recording to look for all channels when recording a series - DirecTV will stream a recording down to your hard drive. THREE - Facebook can be a big data user. FOUR - Playing games can be a data user as well. I have more examples but will stop here.

Someone commented on not being able to use Netflix. Streaming a movie is anywhere from 4 to 8 GB's. One can not stream if one is on a Liberty plan.

I was on Liberty18 and had to go up to Liberty30. Still not convinced that Exede measures data accurately. Would like to know the algorithm they use to track data. Just loaded www.glasswire.com to track data usage. Would like to understand what is going on.

ViaSat-2 launches in April of this year. Wonder what this means for current customers?

I'm writing from the Thumb (on Lake Huron but still quite rural) in MI. I do appreciate the speed that Exede delivers. To echo Jesse's comments - Satellite internet is expensive and data constrained. Exede seems to be able to deliver on speed. But still a shock when moving from the city to the country.

Did you just say that you "struggle" more than ISIS in the desert?  Do you struggle after you turn your furnace up or turn your air conditioning down or get out of your car to go to the mall or when you are deciding between the 20 different lunch meats you can buy at the store or watch "kitty" videos on Facebook ,or or...  I'm sorry ISIS has it so much better than you.

I am wondering why my Excede Internet data is being used up by my Cell phone and TV?? Thats crazy! I already pay for those things seperately. When I had Charter or Huges Net etc...for internet, the data was NEVER used up by my cell phone or TV. Am I getting this wrong, or is it pretty rediculous?

Jesse Jones, thank you!! I was able to find the router, and the appropriate devices were the only ones transmitting. I think I know what my issue was. I've been using my tablet more than laptop, thinking the tablet would use less data. Turns out tablets are bigger drain. Now when I use my tablet I turn my cell into a hotspot and use that data. We'll see how next month goes.

Hello. I also, use a kindle fire with my pcs and PS4. The main way to save data on them with Exede is go into the settings and disable automatic updates. Then disable automatic "system" updates. All those apps constantly checking for and updating can use up a limited net in a heartbeat. I also, did a video in one of my posts about setting your Windows based computer so that it doesn't use data constantly. I have had the 10 gigabytes plan for at least 7 years ( I think) now and usually make it to the end of my billing cycle ok. Hope this helps some.

Thanks Patricia for coming back here and letting us know what you found. I suspect a lot of people who complain about data usage and then find the real reason for it, never bother to come back on this forum to let us know.  That doesn't help other customers who are having similar issues.
