My SMA SB 7000TL-US-22 Solar Inverter communicated with SMA's Sunny Portal via my Exede Internet router for over a year. However it stopped communicating on May 26. SMA says they are aware of a problem with Exede and are working on it. Is Exede aware of this issue? Are others experienceing this?

Terry, I'm not familiar with that inverter. Does it come with software that allows you to view information about it on your computer? I assume you have the Exede Wifi modem rather than a separate modem and router. Is that correct?

I don't have the Wifi modem so, do not know if there has been a recent firmware or software update for it. That may be what happened and, if so, it will be up to SMA to update the inverter software to be compatible again. Just like when the operating system on your computer is updated, it's up to all of the other programs and hardware drivers to be made compatible, not the OS to make itself compatible. Same with out Modems, Exede does what needs to be done form a functioning properly and security standpoint, whatever we want to connect has to be compatible with whatever Exede does.

This is interesting - timing is good too since We've got a tech rep visiting our residence tomorrow to talk about adding solar panels.  One of our relatives recently got 40 panels installed and has internet access to what's happening via a web app - how power generated versus how much used on a daily basis.  He can even due this remotely via a smartphone app.  My concern is that he has COMCAST for internet while I have satelite internet.  I guess I have some more questions for this companies tech rep.
I'm assuming this device is monitoring solar power productivity.

Me too Terry, the company that installed my solar system said Exede is blocking sip packets. When I call exede (multiple times) they act like I am insane and don't know anything, all they do is tell me I am out of priority data over and over even after I tell them repeatedly that it doesnt matter, worked perfectly before and I am always out of data.

Yeah, I thought the same when I got the email from SBA a couple of days ago.  After some research, learning that this was affecting several customers, and some info from SBA, I was able to get to the people that understood what was going on.  It should be fixed in the next day or so!

Terry,

I've been working with SMA America on this issue for the past couple of days!

On May 25, a series of IPs started attacking us (how or what kind is beyond me).  As a result, we blocked this group.  Not all of the IPs were involved, but enough were that it made sense to block the entire group.  As an unintended result, your inverter can't talk to SBA.

I escalated the issue yesterday, and got a response today.  The IPs your inverter uses to report to SMA are going to be opened up again tomorrow.  Communication should be restored within a couple of days, I'd guess.

If you're still not able after say, Sunday, send us an email to ExedeListens@viasat.com, "attn Matt B Solar Inverters" and I'll see what's up!

Hi Matt,

Our inverter also stopped communicating on May 25th and now it has stopped again on 8/28/17. The inverter is hardwired to the router and working fine and we have good Wifi access with our computers and phones. Can you help?
Thanks

Butch,

I'm working with the people that corrected the issue last time.  They've said that there have been no changes in the blocks and filters (the cause of the issue last time) since early December.

They want to take a closer look, to see where the issue is.  Can you please send an email with your account information to ViasatListens@viasat.com?
