As you may already know, I subscribe to Exede through an NRTC member.

After asking them about Exede Voice, they do not offer Exede Voice since it competes with their own voice offering - they're a small local cable operator and the reaadily admit it doesn't work with Exede.

So the question is whether I can subscribe directly to Exede Voice through ViaSat as an NRTC subscriber without being required to switch to becoming a direct Exede subscriber?

Thanks.

Hey Old Labs, I am not %100 sure about the answer for this but I believe you can add the Voice to any account, no matter the dealer. Let me look into this to be sure and I'll see what I can do for you. Can you send me your account info? Having a difficult time locating your account. Thanks!

What Everett says...

NRTC was one of the early investors in the Wildblue. At the time I signed up for Wildblue the NRTC member I subscribed through was the only game in town and then some 80-90 miles or so away. I upgraded to Exede through them. Regardless all the same infrastructure except a different email server unique to NRTC and different billing through the NRTC member organization. Plans are essentially the same except we aren't eligible for any of the new promotions or even the great gig giveaway. Phone support has to go through NRTC's 1st level support further complicating matters.

In effect, we are Exede's red headed stepchildren.

My NRTC member doesn't offer Exede voice since it competes with their product which doesn't work with Exede - they're a small cable provider well to the southwest of here, so trying to see if Exede Voice is even possible (and even then envision billing and administrative nightmares with two parties involved). Although not contractually bound to NRTC anymore - I'm not sure it's worth the hassle to switch over to being a direct subscriber despite then being a new subscriber and eligible for 6 month promos.

P.S. After a response via email, the answer to the original question is, no - I'm at the mercy of the NRTC member organization that doesn't offer Exede Voice - maybe I can get them to run cable for about 80+ miles ;)

Apparently I would have to drop NRTC, signup directly with Exede as a new customer and sorry that's just not worth the aggravation that would be involved; so I simply wait until the "upcoming announcements" and reevaluate my position since I suspect us NRTC users won't be eligible for those either.

For now I remain Everett's long lost stepbrother... and mom always liked him best.

Nah, I'm good - but can I borrow your phone for a minute?

I'm going to hold on to my NRTC "new customer" card and hold out for a bigger Pringles can or better promos, I may be cheap, but I'm not easy. Besides the only calls I really get are from "James" offering to fix my "compooter" - say hi to mom for me..

I had never head of NRTC before. Before I got satellite internet I had dial-up which got to be a nightmare. Started out unlimited time. Then as dial-up got more customers the unlimited time went down to 6 hours and was so slow sometimes couldn't get on and sure couldn't do updates. Then in 2008 got DirectV and also signed up for Wildblue whichwas great until about 2012 then my beam got congested. So changed over to EXEDE and got it directly from EXEDE. Planning on staying on satellite for internet.  :-)
