I have a standard ViaSat modem that was installed when I first got my service. My daughter gave me her old laptop but it doesn't have an ethernet port.  I noticed the usb port on the back of the modem.  Can this be used for the laptop?

Hi Debra,
No , the user guide that came with my Viasat Modem says the USB port is for future applications.  I think this is what you will probably need.  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ET4KHJ2/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=&...
