Low Speed

I join exede family because I was told how much faster it was than Hughes. When I check the speed on speed.net, it has me 1.07 to 5.49. What can I do to get faster speed? I was getting faster with Hughes 4.0. Did I make a mistake by changing?

I don't see what you would gain by changing....both satellite services unless Exede has better signal at you location than Hughes....

Paulette, many things affect your speed. Whether or not you have exceeded your data allotment for the month and, how many people are using your beam at the time (congestion) are the biggest two but, the server you are connecting to, what other devices on your LAN are doing, what else you are doing on the test device and, your hardware all play a part too.

Try during off peak hours (times when most people will either be at work or sleeping, and that is tough now with kids out of school for summer. If it's cloudy at your home or gateway, that has an effect as well.

Beyond that you can email your account information and question to exedelistens@viasat.com and, they can take a look and see if everything looks okay on their end.

Your disk might not be pointed correctly.  What does http://192.168.100.1 show?  The information you want to look for is SNR and if there are any red items showing problems.  If you post a screenshot, make sure you remove your account information first.

Those figures look good.  Do those items always have those values or do they sometimes or often go lower?  Below the "Rx Power" figure is one called "Cable Resistance."  What is its value?

How securely is your dish mounted?  Can it move if, for example, the wind is blowing hard?

Is there somewhere that explains what all these measurements mean? Like "Cable Attenuation"????

These are technical terms. You would be best just to Google the ones you want to know about.

If it is true that you were NEVER below 4 mbps then In my opinion you are not going to be happy.

Hey Paulette,

Bev and xode both have solid points.  Send me your info and I'll take a look and see if it's an alignment issue.
