I have been a customer since it was wildblue or zoom i dont remember which i started with. I am no longer under any contract I know of. Over all i have been super satisfied, yes the download limits are a pain but once you work around them it becomes usable. Generally I do all my downloading at the beginning and end of the billing period so it resets within a few days. The rest of the month I do my regular browsing. But as of about a week or so ago It has been so slow that even basic email/surfing have been a no go. In fact it is so unusable that I am writing this from a 4g cellphone rather than the Internet i pay for. I did a speed check and it clocked .14 bits a second. Alot of sites wont even load. I understand I cannot get unlimited where I live but if the throttling now mean cutting my service off then I am done. I have watched as this company slowly but surely strip away any service you might be paying for. At this point im using what little Internet service i have left to make sure no one else ends up like this. Buyer Beware They change the plans about every 6 months offering great deals to suck in new consumers then strip away at what you have. I have held my tongue till this day about everything, Including the installer that charged me $70 cash for the install and asked me to pick him up a pack of Pall Mall cigs while i was at the atm getting cash to pay him.

I know how you feel. Nothing grips me more than a slow internet connection. I still get annoyed at the latency but as far as latency goes mine is pretty good. My download speed is super in the morning, good during the day and slow around 10:00pm then picks back up around 11:30pm. However, tonight at 1:10 am it is slower than usual @ 3.14 Mb down and 1.14 Mb up. This is unusual but happens some times.

So for over two years you have been super-satisfied but last week it slowed way down. If you haven't used all your data and hit the wall you might have an alignment or interference problem. Maybe your modem is defective. I would ask for a service call and see what they say. Here in Northeast Georgia speed is good.

What kind of cable were they running if you don't mind me asking?  We believe we are 1.5 miles from Mediacom (which I think might also be a Time Warner company), and were thinking of tryin to get them to run the cable,  if the  fixed wireless company we are waiting on doesn't work.  On our 1.5 miles there are 12 houses but I'm guessing they'd still charge that much.  This would be only cable if they did run it, not fiber optic.

Jacqueline, they were only going run the regular wire cable. They did say that the costs could be divided with other subscribers who committed to a 2 year contract, but after checking with the 8 other people along the way, they weren't too keen on paying the extra costs and the two year commitment either. Most are happy with their satellite tv service, and only two have satellite internet. I live in an area that is not very well off.

My neighbors weren't too keen on splitting the cost for a 1/2 mile run at $6500 either. They were of course eager to get cable and cable internet on my dime. Shortly after that Exede launched. However, one of those neighbors was upset when he asked when are WE going to get cable - and I said what's this we stuff (sanitized), I've found a viable option.

Thank you Steve, that is what I assumed you meant but wasn't sure.  I have no experience with cable internet since we have never lived in town.  Your post gives me an idea of what costs might be involved, we might find it cheaper to talk to the fixed wireless about adding a new transmitter closer to us if the current one is just out of reach.  That has been our experience so far but sounds like you relate to that being just 1 mile out of reach of cable.  I wouldn't be interested in cable tv if they ran the line,  only internet.

They only run one cable, it carries both internet and tv services.

i have dealt with slow speeds for the whole time (i dont expect a whole lot out of a sat system) but yes as of late it is to the point where it times out on every site. I managed to do a speed test yesterday and even tried a diff computer and all the troubleshooting i can on my end. And good luck calling them......I can tell you the convo without going through the trouble. "well sir we can be out next week at some random time during the day and it will be XXX hundreds of dollars for us to check our own equipment...we can charge it right to your account"... and to be honest its not worth it anymore.

what makes me think it their end besides me troubleshooting up to the modem is the fact it has worked perfect for however long. And even tho it was a odd exchange with the installer that day he was by far the most professional and well thought out install of the day (he had to work around direct tv and the movers) so i hesitate to say it is the sat dish(it could be though).

Im currently looking at a LOS microwave company in my area From the sounds of it I recommend everyone look into it before signing on to sat from exede or wildblue, zoom, skynet or whatever they decide to call themselves this week.

What is your signal to noise ratio? Should be pretty close to 10 db. However, I get fairly good speed down to 6 db.

http://192.168.100.1/  then select "Modem" also check for any RED check marks indicating trouble.

Matt, wondering why you say that you have "held your tongue" about everything.  why did you wait to report any problems?  No need to do that, and sometimes people wind up more frustrated by not reporting problems.  Hope you can get your problem fixed quickly.

Matt,

I will be more than happy to check your modem status for any issues.  Are you currently dapped?  Please send me an email to exedelistens@viasat.com with your account and contact information.  I will check those stats for you.
