LNFZ and Exede's fuzzy math

Having gone through my trials and tribulations with the data cap I've gone out of my way to primarily use my connection during the LNFZ.  That is to say the modem's ethernet cable is UNPLUGGED from all other network devices in the house so it is impossible for data to be accumulated against my usage until I plug it in.

As of Friday 11/19 I was in the area of 6 to 7GB of usage on my plan.  After midnight my time (EST) I initiated a download via the UPlay client to download a game.  Since this client does not offer scheduling capabilities (like Steam can).  I instead created my own scheduled task in Windows so at precisely 5am my computer would release it's local IP thus disconnected me from the Internet (which it did exactly as intended).

BEFORE 5am I received an email that I was nearing my data cap - keep in mind this was DURING the LNFZ.  A few minutes later I received another (BEFORE 5AM) stating I exceeded my usage.

So my question to Exede is - how is it possible to go over your usage DURING the LNFZ!?

I am calling shenanigans!

What time did you schedule it for? There have been reports that LNFZ sometimes kicks in late for as of yet unknown reasons; and nobody has been able to determine whether downloads initiated that span the official start time count fully or partially against your cap.

The download was initiated approximately 12:30am my time (EST) the scheduled task to release my IP was set for 5am on the dot.  The emails I received were time stamped 4:49am and 4:59am.

Sounds like you've hit the anomaly I've described and supports those who contend that downloads initiated prior to the official start (i.e. when the handshake actually occurs between the Accelenet server and client on your modem regardless of time) count fully against your cap, particularly if the download you mention was in the 3-4 GB range. Some have noted that can be up to an hour late.

Since I'm just speculating, I'll let Exede handle the how it's possible question. Shenanigans? Probably not. Bugs? Probably.

Hi Jason,

Your usage should not be counting during the LNFZ.  Please send me an email to exedelistens@viasat.com with your account and contact information so that I can research this issue for you.
