we just had our service put in and didnt know it wasnt wireless luckily l had a brand new netgear router that we never used and its up and running but l dont think this was a good decision to go w Exede bc we (5 users) have already used 70% of our 20gb data plan!? That's crazy bc we have had so many issues w the internet not working half the time that if we've already used that much there's no way we can stay w Exede?! What should we do?

If you want to/have to keep satellite internet, the only thing I can suggest is to get a good handle on your data usage.  Pretty much any satellite service will have restrictions of a similar nature to Exede though.  If you have the ability to do so, I would look into finding a land-based ISP to service you.  When I started with Exede users were given 1 month to use the service and if dissatisfied, could cancel the service without incurring the 2-year service agreement cancellation fee.  If you can and do plan on switching out of your service, I recommend doing it quickly and getting the current Customer Service Agreement information to know what you can and can't do without incurring major charges.

If you're staying with the service though, being on top of your data usage is the key.  There are various threads/posts regarding this topic that may help (such as the thread accessed by clicking the large orange box labeled "data usage tips").

Thanx.  Ya, this isn't going to work no way no how!  I was going to pay for another 10-20 gbs until l looked at there data plans which only had 1-3gbs and obviously we need much more than that!  I didnt disconnect our unlimited data plan w ATT just for that reason.

I wonder what the chances one or more of these five users are streaming video? If no, are you SURE? You can't stream video except in the LNFZ (well, you can, but not for very long).

As stated above, you have to learn to manage and ration your data on satellite internet. It can be done. Two people browse all day long and use email on our 10 gigs. Five people on your 20 gigs is going to be hard, though. You're going to have to do some serious rationing.

Yea, you're absolutely right.  The two teens are always watching Netflix or Facebook clips and the younger boy is always watching YouTube.

With my 10GB cap I have to be very careful. I phones remain off the clouds and I instruct all of my friends to forget about sending me photos and You Tube videos. Some things are what I call Data Light while other functions are Data Heavy.
It is foolish to have satellite internet when or where ever you have any other options available.

I agree Gary but I don't think EXEDE should sell it if their are better options available. When I started with exede years back I was told by a sales person that they were no allowed to sale it if I had other service available.

Satellite internet is not an end all fix all alternative. It does give those of us in fringe areas a view of the world otherwise unseen where only dial up connections were available. With Exede I am not yet in the 21st century but I can see the edges of it. My land line phone company gets a big "F" rating but my internet service now gets a "C" and with a little better service and data plan I could even raise them up to a B- but it will never get to "A" unless the tie a satellite to my chimney. I chose to live here so I accept the bad with the tranquility I enjoy. Subscribing to satellite internet where other options are available is ridiculous but it is not Exede's failure.

Why should Exede be responsible for knowing what alternative services are available to any of us? Just a few homes up the road from me they have hard wired cable service that simply blows mine away. Time Warner won't string wire another mile down the road just to service my home for another $100/month customer and I don't blame them. My phone company, Frontier, refuses to upgrade their wires up to my home and it makes no business sense to do so for them either. Void of other available services here I have to rely on what I can get at an affordable price and Excede is it. I don't like it but it is a hell of a lot better than dial up through old copper lines that were laid 40-50 years ago and go down every time a tree falls. Do your own research to learn what is available to you and quit crying if you don't like the satellite when there are other available alternatives. There is no comparison of satellite when there is a hard wired service you can get and it is just that simple. Complaining about Excede is reserved for those who have no other alternatives and should be noted in the book, Internet for Dummies!

I am thinking of dropping this service my self. Speeds are not what they say. just checked the so call free zone speed last night. getting maybe 3GBS. never get the 12 I was told was guaranteed. if I am not going to get the speed from here, the local wireless service guarantees 7GBS with 250G of usage.

Be wary of any ISP guaranteeing any type of speed.  There are too many factors that are completely out of their control that can effect your speeds, not to mention the outages and technical glitches they may have on their side.  No reputable ISP, or their sales person, will make you any such guarantee.  If they do, then, what else are they lying about?
