Frustrated with service and connectivity.

Our data is gone before or by mid-month and now I can no longer work from home through a VPN which used to never be and issue. This is something that has been getting worse over the last several months, but according to customer service all my equipment is working perfectly and it is my fault because my computer is downloading updates even though that is scheduled for 2 a.m. which is supposed to "free" time. I now have had to buy more data for my phone plan because we cannot connect with wifi anymore. Every month I wonder why I am paying for service that I can't use. We have even started leaving our computer off and the data continues to be used. How is this possible when we are unable to connect through wifi? Our wireless is password protected and we do not stream movies. The service and connectivity seems to be getting slower and slower the longer we have it. From day one we have had issues, but there never seems to be a problem taking our payment. Complaining to exede seems to do no good.

I think I have found the problem. I found an article someone posted about Apple Icloud. Shut down everything dealing with the Apple iCloud program. It constantly uses data in the background without your knowledge. I closed everything down on our iPhones and our PCs and now we're closer to normal usage, for now.....

I certainly understand your concerns with your data usage. Updates have been a recent talk of discussion regarding one of the top data hogs for consumption recently due to Apple and Microsoft. Your VPN  may be very slow with Exede Internet. Some VPNs may not work at all due to the data required to perform properly. Please send your account and contact info to, we would be happy to give you a breakdown of your data usage in connection with the category types based on your daily traffic.

One specific thing you've mentioned raises a red flag...

downloading updates even though that is scheduled for 2 a.m
If you're using Windows Update the time specified in the Windows Update setting only applies to automatic updates, installing the updates and not downloading. Download will occur at anytime with that setting.

The correct setting for those of us on Exede limited plans is "Check for updates but let me choose when to download and install them" - you'll receive notification of their availability and then you must manually download and install at an appropriate time.

If you're on windows 7 or 8.x chances are that at some points in time over the past several months that the "free" Windows 10 upgrade as well as some updates to it made it to your computer(s) even though you may not have installed it.

They are effective in eliminating the unwanted data you may be experiencing. They apply equally to Windows 10 but there are some other considerations and best to simply ask about those - I'd add them to the link above but that thread has been closed.
