excede internet not providing service

Excede seems to be legal pirates. We have had many of the same issues as others.  I would also like to add that we were told we were using all of our data within the first 48 hours of the billing period. Supposedly ITunes was updated and used all of our data.  After many lengthy conversations, the one that topped the cake, was we were told that they could not provide a service that you could go on the internet everyday.  When we canceled, we were turned over to collections immediately  We did pay $20 thinking it would at least keep it out of collections.  Within a week we were contacted by a collection company and threatened with a lawsuit.  We are still paying $20 a month.  I really can not believe that the FCC lets this company stay in business and continually disappoint and take advantage of honest, hard working people.  It is truly a shame.  Excede- please remember, "Karma is a vicious thing."  Somebody. Anybody.  If you can help we will back you.

Wow I just thought my problem with Exede was bad! My modem has been blinking white for two days and data usage is awful. Now I'm afraid of what will happen if I cancel. Satellite was installed wrong from get go!

Patty, if you have been unable to connect for two days, there is a problem that needs to be fixed. You can call 855-463-9333 or, email your account and contact information as well as stating that you cannot connect to exedelistens@viasat.com. Either way someone will help you get back online or, schedule a service call if one is needed.

Patti Barnett: are you currently able to connect at all to the internet using your Exede service?

gypsyrace, you did sign a contract for 24 months, and agree to an early termination fee if you canceled before that time.

Exede service most certainly does allow you to go online everyday, I do it. What you do online is another matter. Updates, streaming audio or video and, downloading or uploading large files uses data quickly. Depending on the plan you choose how much of that you can do but, even on the lowest plans, you could check email and read a forum or blog or two everyday.

IF a service has or is not working properly then a contract is pretty much null and void as long as that problem has been reported repeatedly and is not fixed. oh and the useage meter that they claim is correct all the time has not worked for about 3 days on my end no matter how much I refresh or log out and back in. I hope everyone starts using the method of unplugging the Ethernet cable from the back of the modem and leaveing it out for a few days or a week since it does show it is unplugged and still using data on exede's end.

IF a service has or is not working properly...
Your lack of logic fails you here: the Exede service works just fine and it is also secure, something that is not true for most other ISPs.  Data is not everything.  How secure you are on the internet is critically important.  Possibly, if you focused on fixing the problems you have on your end, you might also be able to see that the Exede service works just fine.

My experience has been that, even on the lowest plans, you can do a lot more beyond just checking email or reading a forum blog or two everyday.  You simply have to be disciplined with your data.  Specifically:
  • take control of all of the programs on your computer where you decide what gets updated and when the updates happen.  Microsoft windows updates should be at the bottom of this list, because Microsoft is always all but infinitely wasteful of your data.

  • don't stream video.  Personally, I see streaming video as one of the worst ways to waste data that there is.  I can read an article or ebook for a tiny fraction of the data that a streaming video would take and get much more out of it.

  • find a way to speed limit your internet connection on your end for everyday internet browsing.  An ad blocker, if the websites you use don't choose to cause problems over it, can also be helpful.  As far as flash is concerned, you might simply want to keep that program off, which is what I do.

I'm on the Liberty 12 plan and honestly, even after going through my priority data, the service still works better than when I had AT&T Uverse.   I had a little buffering last night but that was during prime time and was to be expected.  AT&T Uverse buffered every once in a while too and it was supposed to be unlimited internet.

Having replaced AT&T Uverse with Exede, you are also much more secure on the internet, one example being you are free of AT&T's infernal hackable supercookies.  Verizon is the worst when it comes to supercookies but AT&T is bad also.

I suspect that unlimited internet, regardless of ISP, is going to have its occasional slowdowns, with some ISPs being better than others, and it is looking like Exede is going to end up being one of the better ones.
