Evolution - What Changed?

I have been using the Evolution  plan for 26 months without going anywhere near my 10GB limit but last month something changed. I only have one computer and one tablet connected and they are both configured to use the smallest amount of data possible and are only updated during the LNFZ. I only watch YouTube in the LNFZ. For the first 24 months I used around 5GB of metered data per month. 10 days into my last billing period I was already at 7GB. I called and of course customer service was pretty much useless, in fact one of them hung up on me. I figured this extreme usage was some kind of anomaly so I would be fine this month. Well 1 day into this billing period and I have already used 1GB? They do say that they changed they way they meter for the Evolution plan but is it possible that it more than doubled my metered usage?

No Netflix, No Youtube, No Streaming during metered periods.
Im using the same systems and techniques as I have for the last 24 months.

How is my metered usage more than doubled?

Exede has updated the method of monitoring the data used under the Evolution plan. Their monitoring scheme was originally not counting some of the streaming and video data that is embedded in many websites. This has been well explained by the moderators over the past month in other threads on this forum.

I have searched and cant find much, do you have a link?

I have always had flash disabled in my browser so not many videos play without me clicking a button, which I dont do.

The other rather strange thing that happened after my data restriction last month... nothing I do on a daily basis was restricted. If I used 10GB of metered data in 15 days shouldn't something have been blocked after my limit was reached? I was actually hoping to use that to figure out what was causing the increase but nothing was effected.

Exede didn't like the Evolution Plan and it is no longer available. They have also made it worthless, as you found out.  There is nothing on the "change my plan" page on the website that warns you that if you are on the Evolution plan and try a different plan then you can't go back to Evolution.  And there is no way for you to know that in advance. The only statements from Exede on the page are: there is never a charge for changing plans, and you can always change to any available plan.  The key word here is "available."  If you are already on Evolution, it shows you all the other plans that are available. It doesn't tell you the Evolution plans are not available. So you try out a different plan for a few weeks and don't like it, then when you try to go back to Evolution, it's not one of the available choices.  That's what happened to me, and nothing I could do or say could get them to get me back on Evolution, where I never even came close to running out of data. Now I'm on the Liberty plan and run out of data in two weeks every month, and that's without using any video or audio streaming, just web browsing and email. The only remaining available plan with a free zone is the Essential 10 plan.  Well, now Exede has changed the Evolution plan so it no longer works as first described, so it's not worth having, except for the free zone.  I'm about to quit Exede after being with them and Viasat's Wildblue for over ten years.  It really sucks! I think their data meter is rigged and not trustworthy.

The conspiracy theorist in me had considered that these 'engineering changes' were more likely the result of a boardroom decision to transition people off of Evolution by metering nearly everything. But as Hanlon's razor so eloquently says "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

Im on day 2 of this billing period, have watched no video or downloaded anything outside of the LNFZ. My router reports a total of 1.2 GB for all traffic to include the LNFZ and Exede reports that I have used .8 GB of metered data.... it simply isnt possible.
