Same problem this month. 15gb gone half May through the month. Never use it all (not even close). Watch some Netflix between 1am - 5am (which is unlimited and free). Next day my internet was gone. In restriction. Considering looking at other companies. Not under contract any longer. Very annoying.

call customer service, it sounds like your LNFZ might not have engaged properly. They can look into that possibility for you.

Automatic updates for any program you have installed, games, Anti Virus, Windows and, Adobe are all fairly frequent updaters. Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, Instagram, etc... PodCasts, internet radio like Spotify or LastFM and, any VOIP or video/voice chat except Exede Voice can also use a good bit of data.

They told me this exact same thing when my ran out in the first few days once. hadn't been on youtube because I knew it could use up data. Most likely they messed up somewhere and don't want to acknowledge it, threatening to switch providers should have them actually doing what they should to help you quickly.

That would do it, especially if you allow the videos to play in HD. That's going to average 700 MB to 1 GB per hour depending on the compression and resolution of the video you watch. Doesn't take long to burn a few GB that way.

Even on Liberty 30, 10 MIN video per day MAX and partner allowed 30 per day on Friday and Saturday because he is not home any other days. And still we come close to or do use every bit of our Priority Data (that's 30 GB.)

Four days after the monthly reset, we are at 70% and going into restriction (aka slower than dial-up). This is so totally bogus. If we switch back to cable, we have no limits on our usage, and TV and cable are cheaper than Excede + DirecTV. Not seeing where Excede is doing us any favors. DirecTV says Excede is draining our usage account, and Excede blames DirecTV. Getting rid of both of these bloodsuckers.

If you use On Demand or, the watch form the beginning features with DTV those will use up your data quickly. Exede is meter service and, it has a higher latency than DSL (that's just the laws of physics with satellite ANYTHING.)

I have had both DTV and Exede for year, DTV since 2002 and Exede/WildBlue since 2006. I have never had data issues due to having both. Sure I've exceeded my allowance a few times, but always because I chose to do so for a large download or streaming a movie in the last week of my billing cycle. I buy more or, live with slower speeds, depending on if I really need the faster speed again that week or not.

I will never understand what would cause a person to switch from cable internet/TV to satellite providers. Satellite TV and internet are there for those of us who have no other choice. They are more expensive and have severe data limitations.

JulieAnn, one thing that is probably using up large amounts of your data is the DirecTV DVR. I uses your internet connection for on demand and the watch a show from the beginning, like 2 GB per hour for each show or movie. Disable the ability of your DirecTV DVR from accessing the internet and you will save data. Using satellite internet does take some getting used to to conserve data.

How do I disable the internet access ability on DTV?

I do not use On Demand, although I do record some shows for later playback. Is that using up that much of my data time?

Recording DTV programs at the time they are aired does not use Exede data at all nor require and internet connection.

You can go into settings and disconnect the primary receiver from the internet. What does use data is On Demand and Watch from the beginning.

If you are not doing either of those nor using any of the internet required apps DTV is capable of, then DTV is not using your data, even if it is connected to your router.

We need to look at other possibilities.

Any streaming (music or videos online) Automatic updates for programs, other devices like cell phones and tablets which can be sneaky about doing updates and using your data. Someone stealing your data if your router is not password protected or, if you gave the guest password to someone and did not change it when you no longer wanted them to use it. Those are common problems.

If it's none of those, maybe if you tell us what you (and anyone else that uses your connection) does online, we can sort out the problem with you.

Same problem!! I don't watch videos, my TV is not connected to the internet. I know you guys have to see the same thing I'm seeing, this is not a problem with us, it's an EXEDE problem. There is something they are doing that is making it show we are using our data. It's something in their equipment. I've looked at several responses here and most are the same thing, over the data usage. I have never gone over in the year I have had Exede until this month. I used all of my data in 2 days... Seriously??? That's ridiculous. I haven't changed anything at all in that year. COME ON EXEDE, DO SOMETHING!!!!!

We have the same issues.  We even did a test at our house and did not use the wifi at all and still seemed to use all our data up.  Something is not right with excede!
