data meter issue

Data meter shows incredibly high usage over the past week. I received a 70% warning mail on Monday morning and was at 14.8 GB by that evening. Our house does not watch movies or TV on the net and the usage was abnormal so I spoke with customer service to no avail. I purchase 1 gb of data to tide over until reset.
Last night our meter reset as it should. At 7:30 pm the meter shows 2.5 GB of use already. No one was even home to do this much net surfing. Antivirus software is current on computers, router network is password secure, and no video watching or major software updates occurred. I am at a loss here. BTW, we are not new to the satellite internet game and have endured much service glitches including slow speed (not dapped), dropped signals, etc. That is all part of newer technology but run amok usage without cause is a new problem.

BTW, I never heard of exede evolution until posting the previous note, but my troubles started the very same time that evolution plan premiered. Also, the useful knowledge forum disappeared and was replaced by this less than useful forum format.

had same problem this week. Exactly the same. With my verizonwireless modem I can see exactly each time a connection is made and amount of data used per session so that I can determine if anyone is overactive! But how did I go from 70% to !00% in short time????? Today it reset but speed is upload 8.17 which is far from the 12 advertised. We pay for 25 g. a month. Time to look for another source of internet?

im having the exact problem. i dont watch or view any videos or do any updates during the day. no steaming what so ever.During the day i totally disconnect the modem from my computer. I dont use a router. and after 4 days it shows ive used 15g of my 10g plan. i called the tech department and customer service and through out the entire process ive been lied to and nothiing has been made clear. I am sick of this service. ive never been so upset at customer service. as of tomorrow im shutting this service down and looking for another internet provider. There is no way i can use 15 g in 4 days with the computer unplugged from the modem without a wireless router. looks like mcdonalds or starbucks until i find a provider that doesnt think im an idiot. thanks for nothing but screwing me out of $71 dollars for this.

i got the same warning on the same day,too used 70% and 100% in less than an hour apart, and no one was home at that time! That tells me exactly what kind of scam the whole thing is! A couple more month and i'm done! But after that i wont give up and tell any one who wants to know about the problems they have.

After three months with Exede Internet service we are very dissatisfied. During the three years that we had service from Verizon we went over our 5-Gb limit only once so we were sure that the 10-Gb plan from Exede would be more than adequate.

We have not changed our internet usage habits. Our average usage with Verizon was 3.5-4.5 Gb/month (100-150 Mps/day). I had been in the habit of checking usage daily with Verizon and have continued this practice with Exede.

On the morning of July 9th our usage for the period from June 16th was reported as 6.1 Gb. We spent that day packing for a vacation, left on the morning of July 10th and were not connected to the service again until July 29th. To our surprise, when I was able to check my email a few days into the vacation I found two emails from Exede, sent at 10:29 p.m. on July 9th . The first reported that we had used over 70% of our data. The second email, with the same time and date stamp, stated that we had reached our 10 Gb limit. I contacted Customer Service as soon as possible and told them of my concerns, that the Exede system added usage that could not have occurred. I was credited $20.00.

In the 18 days remaining in the July-August period, after we returned from vacation, our Exede usage was reported as 7.5 Gb.
The problem has continued into September:
• September 1st we showed 4.8 Gb of usage
• During the next 24 hour period I estimated that we used 0.1 Gb but our usage was reported as 1.1 Gb, raising the total to 5.9
• September 3rd – 0.3
• September 4th - 0.2
• September 5th – 1.2 (I estimated our usage at around 0.2)

I called Customer Service again and explained the problem. We do not stream videos, do no online gaming and any system updates have been done during the “free” hours after midnight. Our router is secure. How the same activity can now produce double the usage demands explanation. Customer Service could provide no solutions other than to send out a tech to check our Exede modem. On September 7th the modem was changed although the tech could find nothing wrong with the original one.

Since our home is in a developing area there haven’t been a lot of options for Internet service but this is changing. Lots in our neighborhood are selling, new homes are being built and the major carriers are installing equipment closer to our subdivision. I would like to be able to tell new neighbors that Exede is a great system but at this point we’re planning to look at other options when our contract expires.

I'm also convinced their data monitoring program is highly inaccurate, intentionally or otherwise.

Why did the previous discussions get deleted from the board. If anyone is interested, we had a very lively discussion going on about how this company is a scam, and the only response you ever see on here is, "email me and we will discuss your options". Well with all of the responses on here, no one has ever come back and said that they had their problems solved. The data usage is a joke. Ours cleared on the 16 of this month, we do not download anything, we use it for facebook, and maybe play a few games, but as of today, (9-21-13), we are up to 6.8 GB. There was no mention of having a data usage limit when we called to signed up, and I have been trying to get out of the contract less than 2 weeks after the install, but all they say is that "you electronically signed a contract before the install, so it will cost you $350.00 to get out"! They have done nothing but lied to me and the other people that was on here, but they won't admit it. PLEASE BE AWARE THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM!

Seriously, they deleted the discussions?? I'd like I hear from Excede about why? Hopefully they don't make a practice of deleting comments that point out the serious limitations of their service?

Here's something we can agree on. It does appear they are trying to lessen negative comments by changing the topic titles. If you click on the "community" tab you will see a link to see the change log. You may be able to find your original posts by looking there. Another reason I much prefer the other forum. I haven't seen this happen there.

Jim I know you want us to go to the other reviews that give them glowing reviews, but do you read those reviews, almost all of the ones that I seen have switched from dial up to Exede, well of course they would be thrilled with the connection they get, I've had dial up, but how happy are they going to be one they find out about the usage limit? And why are they trying to hide the "negative", which is all anyone can comment on this company in my opinion. Why don't they come out with some positive feedback and answers? I don't understand why you are so dedicated to this company Jim, but you need to step back and read and learn.

I don't know what "glowing reviews" you are referring to. There are at least as many negative comments on the other forum as there are on here and I haven't seen any efforts to hide them. The other forum is just easier to navigate and in my opinion much more helpful than this one. Just like you, I only have my personal experiences to form my opinions. Of the 50+ Exede systems I've sold and installed, I don't personally know of a single one who is dissastisfied with the service. So, it is my opinion that most of the negative remarks on here are from people who are trying to blame others for the fact that they bought something without investigating the claims of the sellers and the limitations of satellite internet. I continue to agree with you that is inexcusable for anyone to lie to you about the product but you still have to take some responsibility for falling for it. If you don't learn that sometimes sales people embellish, lie and hold back the truth, you have a rough life ahead of you.

We max out our 10g data every month within 8-10 days and do not watch videos or do anything high use at all. We send emails and surf Amazon or Facebook. It's highly suspect that Exede does not have a more detailed usage report when they used to with Wildblue (so I know it's possible).

Hi, I am having the exact same problems. The first month no problem everything was great. The second month all of a sudden my usage jumps up to 1GB a day with no change on my end. No video, no radio, no large downloads. I stayed with the 10GB plan for two months and It clocked me at 1GB a day. Data used up in about 10 days. 20 days at slowed speed. So I changed package to 25GB this month and all of a sudden now I am using 2GB a day. What the heck is going on? This has got to be resolved!

I'm having the same problem as everyone else...Just when do they reset the usage meter? It's been well over 30 days and still the same, only going higher!
I live in the country so my only other option is Hughes Net. I don't think that would be much better.
I'll get to a point and do what someone else did. Go to the library and just cancel my service.

I just started with this company - had unlimited usage with local telephone dedicated ethernet hookup; was also the first one off the "green telephone telephone box" at the highway, so no other accounts got access and watered the signal down before I got my Mbps; so I assumed that even though my $$ would go up, surely 20 gb was plenty. Hearing these few testimonials makes me wonder - last night i watched about 45 min. of FoxNews from Thursday night and 15 minutes on computer setting up exede. This morning, I learned how to check my usage and found that 1 gb is already gone!! Ow! I've been surfing for the last hour trying to come up with some solutions...Propel 7 and others. Guess I need to keep reading this too. Also need to learn about download managers so I can schedule some browsing after midnight or news watching, figure out how to save it in a SMALL file and figure out how to read...course there's nothing like "attended" surfing where i can get 8 windows opened as I am inspired to look up something else on topic...so i'll stay in the background and do more listening than talking...thanks for the time to "hear" me...

This is my first day with Satellite. On my first day, we have used one third of our allotment. Our grandson does play online with his nexus tablet, but this amount of data was never used by us when we were on U-Verse. Good grief. This is going to get expensive fast. We have had to settle for satellite because of where we have moved, however I am going to look into another company to supplement this with instead of increasing our allotment with exede as their plans will be used up in a matter of days at this rate. They have us for two years. But will exede earn our business or throw it away in the two years.

According to my router, it has had 89788 tx packets and 131954 rx packets since it came online. Packets are usually 1000 bytes to 1500 bytes in size. If I have done this correctly and calculate both directions at the larger sized packet of 1500 bytes I get 322,613,000 bytes or 323 Mega Bytes. Because I did not look at the router the day of the data usage, my figures may not be accurate. However, that is a good deal less than 3 Giga Bytes. It turns out that my current router can also monitor traffic in and out and warn me when I come close. It will also automatically reset on my anniversary date and still show me the former months data usage. I have setup my router to monitor data in and data out now and will know exactly what we are doing.

It would be wise to use some kind of software to monitor your actual usage. I am retired, and we have two laptops and one desktop on our local network. My wife and I are the only only users in our home. I upgraded to Exede in April of 2012 and have been very happy with the service. Only once in that time have I gotten close to my 15 GB limit, and that was when my son was visiting, he was doing work using his VPN and doing many file uploads and downloads with some size. He also had his iPhone and tablet connected to the router. Normally I use about 8 to 10 GB a month. I go on Facebook about an hour a day, a few other social sites for an hour or two a day, download a few youtube videos a week, and do email, check the weather and radar a few times a day. I do use add ons in my browsers, Ad Block, Flash Block, and have Java disabled. Some websites are data hungry with their ads, autoplay of videos, etc. Also I never use any cloud based services, as these are data hogs, updating data every few minutes, even is you haven't changed any files. Neither of us play any online games, as these are data hogs too. Last summer I was playing Castleville on FB two to three hours a day, and this used up 300 MB a day. Leaving browser tabs open also uses data, as many websites are constantly updating. Facebook constantly update, so it should be closed when you are not actually using it. We never download any movies, Netflix or the like, as these use huge amounts of data, 4 GB for a 2 hr hi def, i hr for standard def movies or TV programs. Downloading these shoouuld be limited to the late night zone, when data is not counted.

Were you metering your usage on Uverse? How much were you using there? You may want to consider installing Networx to where where your data is going.

I got this installed 2 days ago and the Meter already says that we went over our allotted 10 gig. How does that happen????? I checked it the day it was installed just a few hours after and it said we used 2 gig when all I did was check email and Facebook without downloading anything, not even updates!!! Ugh!!!
