Data usage charged when during "Free" time. Exicide not abiding to contract.

I see a number of people seem to have the same problem with data usage flying up when it is not supposed to. I shut my computer down during the day and got on during the "Free" time my plan gives and then my usage shoots up above my monthly term. I am looking for another service as this one has done this to me for the last 4 months with no satisfaction whatso ever. It seems like Exide has for some reason or another decided not to live up to the contract. Maybe I should find an attorney and sue them for "Free" life time service?

I see many other people also have the same problem with data being used almost as fast as the time begins.  Is excide doing this to make more money by having the people buy more data?  I fell into that trap 2 months ago and refuse to buy what I did not use.

Maybe if excide lived up to their obligations of "Free" service from midnight to 5 am I would not have this complaint or problem?

I have another service in mind for less cost and unlimited data.  If no satisfaction this month, I will change after the new year.

Hi Leon,

I am sure you have password protection on your system.   If you don't then anyone within as much as 100 feet away from your router could be using your data.

If you do have a password change it to a strong password, letters, numbers, special characters etc.

Do you have a satellite TV system, like direct TV, if so insure your DVR is not hooked up to the internet thru your router, ie prevent on demand downloading, strange things can happen, like a whole seasons episodes get recorded, using all of your data.

Make sure no one else has your password, sometimes children will give their friends their password.

If all of the above is ok, and you actually have a free zone, and nothing changes contact Exede.

Good luck.

Morning Wood wrote..."I have a loooong video of the modem sitting in a corner for 7 days straight, blue lights happily blinking all by its' lonesome while it steals my money."...  Video camera is probably using your wi-fi and eating your data.  Other posters have found this out to.  Of course he is a troll and will deny this, but it is almost certain that this is his problem, or he is not telling the truth.

A long video made by Morning Wood would be on his side of the modem/router so it wouldn't use exede data even if it was wi-fi.

Not true.  Cameras today upload to the "cloud" and this has caused a lot of data loss to other costumers.

Only if he runs an application to do that.

I run many cameras here with motion detection and none of them go to the internet.

I saw that the other day when I had the computer off and nothing in the house was on.  I wondered what was going on until I looked at the usage and saw about 1.5 gig being used when my computer was off and nothing else was on.  I now unplug the modem. I have done all I could to stop usage and it seems Excede still shows usage while I have the system down.

The data meter supplied by Exede is NOT in real time.  It can take minutes, hours to update.  Turning everything off for weeks and turning back on will show data used before the modem was off.  If you watch a movie and then turn everything off and go on a world cruise for a month, when you get back and turn on the modem you will see 1-3 gigs used while you were "gone"  because the movie you watched last month was not counted until you turned the modem on again.  This is what is causing people to think data is being used when they are not on line.  Until people realize this they will incorrectly think data is being lost.

I have wondered this also there is no way that meter is correct. I have been at a fresh data reset and unplugged mine duering free zone and left it unplugged for days, logged in with my cellphone and data was used up.
