Apple Mail and email migration

I am unable to manually set up my new email in Apple mail. It gets the settings automatically and always comes back with a Google mail account. I did receive emails saying that my account has been migrated, so that isn't the problem.

you will most likely have to set the mail setting manually, here is an article on the settings

Yes, I know.  That is the article that I accessed to change my settings.  If you will note, my problem states that I CANNOT CHANGE THE SETTINGS MANUALLY.

When I click on the plus sign to add an "other" account (because I can't change the old one from a Google account to an Other account), it asks for my user name and password and then promptly contacts the server to discover and verify settings.  When it gets to the general information screen, it says it is a Google POP email account and I cannot change the incoming server settings.

AHA!  I found the problem!

After adding the account, I went to the Advanced tab and found an item that said "Automatically detect and maintain account settings."  I unchecked that box and now I am able to edit the incoming settings.  It still says it is a Google POP account.  I'm testing the account now...

Thanks SO MUCH for this info.  It helped me out tremendously.  I had been reentering accounts multiple times with no success until I read the above.  I'm working fine now.  thanks again

OK.  I got it to work.

They should probably add a line to those instructions about that checkbox on the advanced tab.

I had the same problem even after deleting my Google POP account. It automatically created the Google POP account again. I logged into my WildBlue mail account online & changed my password. It then couldn't log into the Google server & allowed the manual settings for my new WildBlue mail account.
