I have the Liberty 12 pass, which I know is the lowest available where I live but it's only me and my husband, neither one of us are gaming and avoid streaming. For the first few months of having Exede we would run out of our 12 GB after about 10, but for the last 6 months or so we run out within the first 24 hours. Does anyone know how we can avoid this? I just feel like I'm paying for the worst wifi ever and because we live in the country we have no other choice.

It’s probably updates. We have windows and all of a sudden 19g gone. You can look up a solution google it, explains how to set up “metered” data.

If your computer is operating with Windows 10, read my take on this in a post made 2 days ago by clicking HERE. You may be supplying others all over the world with Windows 10 updates without knowing it.
Windows 10 is NOT your friend.

Chris, as others have said, automatic updates is the most common cause of excessive data usage.
Here are some tips that may help you: http://help.exede.net/articles/General/Maximize-Your-Data
https://www.cnet.com/how-to/stop-windows-10-from-automatically-updating-your-pc/ NOTE: The Creators Update does allow Ethernet connections to be set to metered same as WiFi.

All of my devices (which is only our 2 phones and 1 ipod) are set to do our updates manually.

I also have the Liberty 12 pass and I never run out of data. However, my own network is also very simple: one desktop PC hooked up to the Exede non-wifi modem through one ethernet cable, and with windows OSes in VMs that I keep on a very tight leash.
Somewhere, in your network, there are components your network has but mine doesn't, and one or more of those components are burning up your data. You need to find those components and put them on a leash. I would look for windows 10, directTV, iphone/ipad updates, and the like.
However, in addition, you might have another option. If you login to your Exede account and look to see what plans there are available that you can change to, you just might find that you have an unlimited plan available for not much more than what you are currently paying. If that works for you, then I still recommend that you look for your data burners because it never hurts to have a frugal network.

Thanks for the ideas, I'll look at our DirectTV boxes, although they said they didn't connect them to our Wifi that could be the problem. We only use an Apple laptop, 2 iphones and 1 ipad, on all we do our updates manually, usually at work where the wifi is better. The Unlimited plan is not an option since it is $100 more a month than we are paying now, if it were less expensive I would consider it.

Directv tech has told me to be mindful of any Smartv's as DTV updates about every 30 days and can us alot of gb's. We only connect for streaming Netflix. Good luck.

I also cant afford the $100 a month jump to unlimited,so I feel you there, but I would like to add that just because YOU arent using your data doesnt mean your neighbor isnt. Have you tried setting or changing your wifi password?

Thank you for pointing that out. I am not on Liberty. I am on Exede12 which in my region is $50 a month and the silver unlimited (25), which is the ONLY unlimited plan offered to me in my region is $150. So therefore it is a $100 a month increase. Plans and prices vary from region to region.

Check your iCloud settings. If you have anything set to save in the cloud, you are burning a ton of data on your plan without ever seeing it. Pics and videos are the biggest culprit. Any automatic backups (including external drive backups) should be disabled. Also check your apps. Background refresh will use some too. Not much but enough over a month to be noticeable. Particularly social networking apps.

The iOs 11.1.1 update for my iPhone 8 last week was 2.65 GB. The iTunes update was 0.4GB. Apple TV update was 1.51 GB.
