1 GB a day?? no way

I am a long standing customer. When I had the 10 GB a month package I was using .2 a day on average checking emails. I recently switched to the 25 GB package and am now supposedly using 1 GB a day. There is clearly something wrong and my suspicions is there has been change on the exede side that has started claiming higher using. This is unacceptable. Please respond.

Jim, how long ago did you change plans? Have you changed what you do online, your operating system, number of connected device?

If you would like a usage review, you can email your account and contact information with your request to exedelistens@viasat.com and, they can give you a better idea of how your data was used.

Are you sure he isn't saying 25mbs?  Is there a 25GB package? If it is the 25mbs package then he can easily use much more data than he did before.

If you are using any smart devices...iPad, smartphone, etc. go into your settings and make SURE auto updates for apps is disabled. It doesn't matter if you have already done this in the past...it can get switched on very easily when you do an OS update. With the last Apple update it turned on one of my daughter's iCloud for pics and videos. You have ANY idea how much data a 15 yr old girl can have on her phone in pics and video?? Anyway, her phone was the only one that this happened to out of 5 iPhones...it CAN happen.
My suggestion is to install a usage meter app on your smart devices. Also, if you are running something with Windows 10, it has a usage meter built in that you can check.

Cloud backups are also a killer....especially if they are turned on for smart devices.

I always cringe when I hear one of the Cartonite ads.

I have heard that if you upgrade you will use more GB for the same usage. Just the way this company is.

This appears to be true. In my experience and, according to this user forum, pretty universally.

Yes it is true, if referring to upgrading to a 25Mbps plan... but not for the reasons you're implying.

Many of today's web sites and applications are adaptive in nature, meaning that they adjust to the greater speeds detected by sending you even more unwanted/unnecessary data under the guise of giving you a richer user experience.

So the question is, what are you doing to prevent those web sites and/or applications from exhausting your data? The tips to prevent them are here... look for them.

P.S. many of us experienced this phenomenon when upgrading from Wildblue to Exede service and made the necessary adjustments. However, even then I found that with the greater speeds offered by Exede (a twenty five fold increase for me). I was subconsciously altering my own habits to use more data (using more data in less time) and even had to modify some bad habits I'd developed with Wildblue to overcome its speed limitations.

There could be a MULTITUDE of ways this can happen. The best way to really determine is if you email us at exedelistens@viasat.com and have us do a usage review for you.
