Yahoo Email Issue Being Investigated

Howdy Folks,

Just wanted to sort of do a blanket addressing of our current issue with Yahoo emails bouncing as undeliverable. We hear you guys loud and clear. We have escalated this to the company that serves as our email host and they found an issue that is being fixed. Unfortunately, it's been an ongoing process for the better part of the last week but it is being worked on to be resolved ASAP.  We're very sorry for the inconvenience that this may be causing with sending out emails. From what we know emails are coming TO our customers but not FROM. So that is being sorted and we hope to have things up and running as soon as possible.

Please let us know on this topic what issues may be showing. Some are forwarding to our exedelistens@viasat.com address but let's try not to clog that inbox with all the forwarded emails unless requested, instead you can send us an email if you want a personal correspondence but please refrain from forwarding all of the bounced emails. My team and I will try to post updated information as it comes in.

Thanks

I forwarded a copy of a returned Yahoo email to Viasat a couple of weeks ago.  A couple of days later they replied that they had rerouted something and to try it again.  So far, for 2 members of the household, it appears to be working.

Thanks Ronald!  Send an email to us at ExedeListens@viasat.com with your account info, and a copy of the error you're getting.  The more examples we can get, the quicker this will be corrected!

Brad, I sent two emails from my wildblue account to my yahoo account. I am no longer getting the email rejection notice, HOWEVER, the emails are not getting through to my yahoo account.

The problem is not fixed yet.

Matt, I have nothing that I can send you, since I send the emails, and they don't get through to Yahoo. There is no message about the emails not being able to be delivered.

I just sent an email to Diana's attention, since she had been working with me on  this issue last week.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled What's Happening with Yahoo?.

I wrote to you a couple weeks back re: trouble with yahoo customers getting my email. You sent a response indicating an ongoing process to resolve this problem. Can you give me a progress report? Will I ever get to email to yahoo? Thank you. John Blevins

You can setup your Exede email address to "auto forward" to your gmail address, then send everything out through your gmail address. Eventually your Exede email account will just sit there with not much coming through it.

The last thing I heard was some security signature issue is causing all of this and we're getting Synacor (our email handlers) to correct this with Yahoo. I'm going to file a followup. I had some sent to me but the emails were from before the 4th when a "fix" went in. My point of contact is in today.

To a degree I agree with Veteran SatUser, something along the lines of Yahoo or Gmail is less of a headache, it won't tie you to a service provider and just like our email it's 100% free to do. That's the route I personally take but I understand how some folks have used the wildblue/exede.net emails and once you have an email address established, a migration is a chore and may not be as easy to as it sounds. Still working on it.

Anyone still seeing this after 10/4 (when the email originates, not when the undelivered message is returned) can forward it to exedelistens@viasat.com so we have an example. Please include the body of the email (so no spicy personal emails) and please limit it to just one example/person unless otherwise requested because if we're getting everyone's entire day of email correspondence that's going to clog our workload and slow our response times.

Brad, I have been sending an email every day from my wildblue.net account to my yahoo.com address. In the past week, the "Failed delivery" messages have gone away, but none of the emails I sent have gotten to my yahoo account. I have checked the inbox, spam and trash folders, but nothing made it through,.so all the "fix" seems to have done is to eliminate the "Failed delivery" messages to the wildblue email inbox. Therefore I have nothing that I could send you to help in solving this mystery.

Brad, I just sent an example that originated 10/6/17.  I do still receive the bounce messages.  Maybe just the difference between exede and wildblue?

I have been having this problem, and sent an email October 24 that came back on Oct. 27 as undeliverable. So issue seems unresolved.

I have a client having the same issue - emails sent to Yahoo or Frontier - and after several days, the email fails to deliver with no other error messages except - retries exceeded.

554 5.4.7 [internal] exceeded max retries without delivery

Makes me think Yahoo is not allowing the Exede servers to connect at all - IME, spam filtering IP/connection blacklisted

I agree with all.  Issue was fixed ever so briefly for a couple of days, but again, is now re-broken.
Since they closed our original "complaint" "issue to be investigated", do we know that Exede Tech is seeing these threads, or assuming all is well?

They will see the threads, but the best solution is to quit using the email address you got with your Exede account and use an email product independent of your ISP.

I finally made the transition to using my Gmail account for all my emails. Most of my contacts have been told to transfer to my Gmail address, but as I go forward, I have set my Wildblue email to forward all emails that show up in it to my Gmail address. It works so much better, much fewer spam mails and now I can send emails and replies to people without the problems that the Wildblue email account has with Yahoo and a few other addresses.

Switching over to Gmail was time consuming at first, but well worth it in the end.

Just to let you know I am having this problem again to. Everything seemed like it was "Fixed" but today found 5 messages that they were Mail Delivery Failures to a message I sent out early Thursday afternoon. It was a little irritating when I thought it was fixed and that the  message had to do with an event yesterday. Hoping this gets fixed and stays that way.

I thought too The Yahoo mess was over but here it is back again! Starting to believe the yahoos work for Wildblue/excede. Unfortunately for me I doubt that I can make the transfer to gmail myself but will need to pay The Computer Guy to do it for me. That means leaving my “stuff” in the shop for an appointment. Not happy but will wait a couple more weeks to do that.

Connie, setting up a Gmail account is really quick and easy. Then all you need to do is go into your Wildblue/Exede email web page and under preferences, forward all emails to your new Gmail address. If you don't think you can do it, invite a friend over, or a neighbor, and they can fix you up in a few minutes.

I had one that I sent out on the 6th, and finally on the night of the 9th I got a mail delivery failure message that it never went through. So I'm really not sure if they have this fixed or not. It's really gets frustrating especially with no reply from someone at exede on what is happening with this situation. I was sent a survey but haven't heard anything till you posted. Yes I called but they seemed clueless on what was happening.

Matt, at what email do you want these? I've sent numerous versions in the past to some generic getsatisfaction address and clearly there has been no long term remedy. What do you think would be in this one that isn't in the old ones?  Why would we assume that this is going to help anymore?  Not being an IT person, but how hard is it to white list "exede.net"?

Now it gets worse. In addition to Yahoo blockages, I just had an email blocked by hotmail:

"A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list (AS3150). You can also refer your provider to http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors. [VE1EUR02FT018.eop-EUR02.prod.protection.outlook.com]

It'd be the exedelistens@viasat.com email. What we're looking for is the rejected email that shows the path because that's what will be needed. A simple email saying "I can't send to X"  or "fix this" unfortunately won't help us much. But if we have the rejection path we can send it to try to resolve it and let the smart-brains that can decode that fix it. I believe it was tied to Yahoo's security certificate and I thought we had it fixed and then it reappeared and just won't stay dead.

Part of the difficulty is that while we offer an exede.com/wildblue.com email address we don't do handle maintenance or hosting, it's a company we use called Zimbra that handles it and hosts our email program but problems with our email has to go through us and then to them so we're still the point of contact but they are the ones to fix it. We used to use Google's gmail platform which worked beautifully until last year or was it 2015? when they ended support for all Internet Service Providers and that's when we started using Zimbra as our host. They do email for other ISPs like Xfinity and others so they were the next best pick but it's a pretty wide margin between them and Google if you ask me.

In my personal opinion (which obviously is just that: "a personal opinion" and not something speaking from a company perspective) I like using a 3rd party email option like Gmail or Yahoo because they are free and they are not tied to an internet service provider which means if I ever move or change internet options I won't have to change emails. Plus they have direct support if need be. ISPs offer an email address and I think that is just a carryover from the days of "fresh new internet" when AOL sent CDs in the mail. Also some people do want that option with an ISP.

If you have a email rejection with the path of the rejection please send those. Also please confirm it's within 48 hours as last time this really became an issue when I made this post we had a "fix" in place but everything we got were before. So the more recent the better.

Thanks Matt.  Sent.  Please be aware that it takes at least 3 days after sending an email to Yahoo, before we receive the "can't be delivered" message from them.  It's not an instant reply like when you sent a message to a user that doesn't exist on a system.

Do you really want your emails to take 3 days to get to their destination?
I just did similar from my @exede.net account and as of 1.5 hours later, still no arrival.

When forwarding delivery notification email messages to Exede, be sure to include the full headers with the message (not simply the text of the message)  - how to do that will depend on your email client - http://lmgtfy.com/?q=forward+email+with+original+headers

But FWIW, it appears that both exede.net and wildblue.net have some DMARC issues that need to be resolved if any techies are lurking... remember, failure is always an option.

Well, my reasoning was that the email I sent to my @yahoo.com account did not take "3 days" but was delivered immediately after the problem was fixed by Exede/Yahoo.

To prove that was true I just sent another test email and it was delivered to my Yahoo inbox in seconds...so, as I said..let's see if this latest "fix" is the last of the problems getting @wildblue.net emails accepted at yahoo.com mail servers...

Old Labs is correct.  My message from @exede.net to @yahoo.com actually did arrive in a timely manner, however it was dumped into the spam folder.  I had mentioned during our first go-round with this issue that on occasion my work email server won't accept a @exede.net email because the dynamic IP that was assigned to me when I logged in, was on a blacklist of known spammer IPs.  The problem would eventually go away when I managed to get a new dynamic IP assigned to me.  Sounds like the same thing going on with Yahoo.  The problem is that whatever entity Exede/Wildblue/Zimbra/whomever maintains the dynamic IP database, can't prevent spammers from being assigned one of theirs at times.  Thus Yahoo can't whitelist our domains because of the spamming danger.  My conclusion, we're SOL.

Yahoo is still rejecting wildblue emails. Your new email server sucks, plain & simple. Tried using gmail and many were getting rejected or undeliverable there also. Maybe you should scrap the email part of the service and give us a discount on the monthly fee, as this newest email server has been nothing but shat since the start. $80.00 a month should at least get a reliable emails server without crap for a reputation!

If you are seeing that issue with Gmail the problem is on your computer because Gmail is a completely different email server. There is no charge for our email at all. It's just tacked on if anyone wants a email from us.

Email from exede.net to @yahoo.com is still NOT working.  My last received "undeliverable" message came back Dec 1.  I just (12/5) testing send a new message to my Yahoo test account and nothing arrived.  It'll take 3 days to get the "undeliverable" message back on this one.

I agree that GMail issues are not the same issue.  However I'm also resolved to the fact that the Exede/Yahoo issue to never being resolved.  It's just the result of the Yahoo spam filtering algorythms.  Not really ViaSat/exede email server.

Ronald, that makes sense...email from @exede.net is being filtered but email from @wildblue.net is working OK....whatever was done for @wildblue.net customers (like me) needs to be done for @exede.net customers.

I'm not saying it's fixed, please don't take my comment above as an implication of that. We're still looking at this, but we have seen this issue largely die down from when this post was first generated. Somewhere some customers are still affected so on those we want to look more into it. Please send RECENT rejected emails to viasatlistens@viasat.com (for those that were using the exede listens email that still works but with the rebranding that's the email we'll defer to moving forward) and we'll look at those for you/.
