Well lets see just wonderful customers service on here and with exede. Not!!!!!!!! Have never got a solution to them taking and stealing my data always point finger at the customer. Do what i am asked of me on here and for some odd reason noone can call. Oh everyone is willing to help and everyone knows exactly what the problem is but noone wants to fix it. All i can say is they dont care about customers and once ypu sign the 2 year contract they get your money guess time to turn into the BBB and let them check out this forum. Great bunch of customer service rep here

Yes, you might check with the BBB.  Viasat/Exede has an A+ rating with them.

You know Randy a couple of weeks ago I would set here and spar with you about this. But after the last 10 days I'm not sure this forum is any more help than the phone system, Let me rephrase that.  I mean if the reps can get anymore taken care of. Theres a vast amount of knowledge in this forum. I had big hopes and was proud of the response and reps but after last week I tend to agree with you. I was given 5 gigs I had lost and then lost it in the same day. Your right apparently there is no phone contact from this forum. I havn't been shut off yet but I see that coming, I will be kicking the doors down next I guess after I frowned so much on that. I kind of feel like I lost a old friend. :*(

Most of the time, little things can use up a lot of time. Think about if you have wifi on, someone visiting can use your time, if you have guest set up. What has to be fixed is something you have to fix. As I mentioned to someone else, do you really have in your mind that they pick you out of the thousand of people they serve to rip you off? People like to post problems, when things are going fine, they are happy and nothing to say. So if you narrow down the amount of issues to the amount of happy customers the odds are pointing heavier to happy, then sad. If you find the issue is at home, do forget all the people at Exede that tried to help you and remember those two words that is so hard for people to say "THANK YOU". You do have a problem, just need to find out what it is.

Dan I have preached the Thanks gesture every sense I started helping here and Kim will tell you I practice what I preach. I guess it was just my number came up, I didn't lose anything it all worked out but I learned about people. That's a important lesson. I will drop the phone because I need a backup communication and not depend on this one thing.

Well lets see my wifi is password protected no pc hooked up so its just wifi that is password protected and no guest log in. Cord coming from modem gets unplugged from router when not in use. Thos internet was only intended for our cell phones cause we get no internet on our phones since changing providers on cell. Now with that being said our other provider with 5 phones only use 10gb. Now we have 3 cells that we use with this provider and with the exede records from what they say is with 10 days left before being reset i have already use 20gb. I did my homework covered my basis and its not on my end. Also might i add that i did have a router issue that lasted for 3 days where it wouldnt connect internet finally got that resolved through the router company. But no internet for 3 days also on mlk day no service on exedes end so thats another day so now we are at 14 that not using the faster speeds then i have one more day to add which was the sunday that it reset no internet cause of a snow storm so with my other cell phone provided and 5 phones i used 15 gb on cell phone data. I finally change cell provider and find bad data signal with this company where i live. So i goto exede internet so i can wifi and ten days before my reset billing cycle and 5 days of no internet i used 20gb. Something is definitely wrong but not on my end can anyone explain where my phantom data is going cause its not here

Oh let me also add that i have talked to 2 people on phone and no answers but i can buy more data and 2 responses on here through email with case number saying i will be contacted within 24 hours and almost 1 week layer noone has called me but on my first initial complaint i did get an email stating i need to change plan and get less data but pay more. So like i said not on my end 3 phones 20 plus gb of data i dont think so

Randy,

Sounds like you were previously connecting your phones exclusively by the cell phone network and now you are connecting via Wifi. As a result, they think they're hitching a free-ride on Wifi at McDonalds, Starbucks or your local library and will consume more data. Not a smartphone user and the closest I have is a Surface Pro which is data hungry when connected via Wifi and requires action to tame its appetite, so can't offer any advice but perhaps someone else more familiar can.

Randy -

I have 5 cell devices in my house and it was only AFTER disconnecting them from my Wifi that I saw the expected data utilization on my system.  As it turns out my cell / tablets appear to have been eating up a LOT more data than I realized.  Android likes to update apps constantly.  Now I am still not certain I have caught all of the data Gremlins, but I have certainly seen a huge improvement just without the cell phones.

If you truly believe Exede is incorrectly popping you for data usage you are not using, then power off the router for a few days and prove it.  If your usage meter goes up while the router is powered off an unplugged you have a case.  If your usage does not go up while the router is unplugged then you have proven that something on your network is sucking down your data.

Also - as to wifi passwords.  Make sure you are using a strong WPA2 Encrypted password for your Wifi - Weaker methods can be hacked pretty quickly with the correct tools.  In my case it doesn't matter since I am in the sticks with no one in reach of my wifi signal so no worries there.

Anyway - easy way to tell for sure.  Unplug the router and check the meter after a couple data.  You can also use SRT to check your usage.  You have made some huge accusations, now you need to back them up with proof - which is easy enough to get.

Brian, people do not realize or even consider how much data their phone app's are using and it is good to see someone pointing this out.

Hi Emory nice seeing you here this early, thats been my experience the phone apps, and some of the updates have exceeded a gig, thats quite a shock to glance at your data and tomorrow a gig will be gone. This has happened to me several times. Nice seeing you so soon.

I actuall did have it unplugged and just an fyi on android phones you can in the setting put it to not update that is how mine is set up and i wait untill i have data service on my phone before actually downloading the update. It was unplugged for 3 days and data was still being used excuse is that it lagged on the usage. What i was to letd is that if you use 3 gb in one day it wont show up directly. That it may show up in day or 2 and they also should have record of me calling and them trying to help me get back on internet so they know it wasnt working . To later finding out it was an issue with my router as to why my internet wasnt working. I have gone as far as unplugging power from router and also disconnecting cord from modem to the router and still used data. The houses near me cant get on my wifi cause to far away unless they pull in my driveway and also i dont have a guest login. But thank you for the advice i have really tried covering my bases before making any phone calls that did no good and before posting on here. Also amber i have replied back to your email with a contact number that i can be reached at anytime. Thanks everyone
