Worst Internet Service EVER

Reliability is very, very bad.  Hardly a day goes by I don't lose internet or entire network and have to reboot modem / router.  When I hit data limit, speed goes from a "promised" 12 MBPS to .21 MBPS!   Dial-up works faster than that!  I would NEVER do this again - only did because local internet company had no more capacity.  Starting to think NO internet would be better than this - at least then I'd know why I don't have service!

Dialup is no where near .21!!! .21 Mbps is almost 5X faster then a 56k modem. And that’s only if the 56k modem connected at full speed which they rarely do. Anytime you go over your allotment on a congested beam you will get .25 Mbps. Either learn to conserve data or upgrade your plan. This is how satellite internet works.

Well... thank you for perfectly useless advice & stats, which I neither asked for or wanted.  My point was this service is horrible, and I wouldn't have it if I had any other choice.  But I sure do appreciate you defending it......

It works as it’s intended to. Unrealistic expectations will never change that.

I don't have unrealistic expectations, except that it NOT take an hour to download a file, or take 4 to 5 minutes for a page to load.  Or to be told, over and over, that there's a problem with my modem but it can't be fixed.  When i have to re-boot the modem almost daily, that is NOT working as intended.

I am paying for up to 12 mbps. I havent used up my priority data for the month and my current speed is 16 mbps. Happy customer here.

I'm just chiming in so others can see Viasat is not the "Worst Internet Service EVER."

Agreed. Outside of the VS2 bugs I’ve always been very satisfied with exede/ Viasat. Just want that rock solid reliability on VS2 that I had on VS1. It will take time, and I knew that when I adopted early.

You're probably on a heavily loaded beam and/or gateway.

.21mbps speeds are something I was told would virtually never happen with a VS2 customer.

Either something is wrong with your system or I'm not getting the straight scoop....there is NO door #3

Wayne, if you are getting that speed then you should contact Customer Care so they can see what is going on, they might tell you to follow basic troubleshooting but at the end they can escalate situation, can be either Network Congestion or a problem with the Beam. You better talk to them.

Thank you. I have contacted them and you're right - follow basic troubleshooting, which doesn't fix the problem.  I'll push this issue with them.

Your speeds alone should be enough to trigger a service call. If worse comes to worse, unplug the power from your modem, wait a while and then call customer care....no power always triggers a service call.

I get that not everyone has the same experience.  And I'm happy if it's working for you.  My point is I've been working with computers since 1982, and the "internet" when it was just dial-up and bulletin boards.  I have NEVER experienced the frequent drops & lack of speed I'm seeing now, except for outages.  I don't expect sympathy from anyone - I'm just stating MY experience.  It has been a disaster for me since installation - 48 dropouts in just 2 months (I stopped keeping track), and now less than .3MBPS on speed.  I will push for a service call, as was advised.
