I'm thinking about changing plans but don't know if it would be a simple switch-over or require replacing my current modem

It should be a simple switchover.  If you have the surfbeam 2 modem, it will be a simple switchover since I have the liberty 12 plan and my modem is a surfbeam 2 modem.

Yes, you can change plans without needing a new modem.

So long as you switch to another residential plan, you will not need a new modem. Were you to switch to a business plan, you would need to re-provision your modem, but it would still work after that. (provisioning requires a Viasat official or technician.)

No re-provisioning is required to change residential plans.

No modem change required unless you are on a old Wildblue plan.
