There are two levels of password protection to be concerned about. Your router's administrative password and wireless network password(s) - dual band routers will typically allow establishing separate passwords for each frequency/band (and therefore two distinct local area networks - actually three when you count the wired connections).

If you have the Exede WIFI/modem (combination modem, router and voice adapter), the user guide explains how to create/change the network name and password for wireless access protection using the administrative utility reached by typing into your browser. That user guide is available at:

Third party routers usually have a similar administrative utility needed to configure them, which is typically located at and specific details on how to change or establish both levels of protection varies by router brand/model (consult the manual for it or let us know what brand/model you have and someone can tell you where to find it online).

Hello Glenda,

Open your router settings page, create a unique password on your router and then change your Network's SSID name.

Use a secure password. Don't use easily guessed passwords for your WPA2 or router access passwords, such as "ABC123", "Password", or a string of numbers in order. Use something hard to guess that contains both upper and lowercase letters as well as numbers.
If you have The Exede wifi modem please follow this link for further support.
