WiFi Cell Phone Service poor over Exede

I've had Exede since Dec of 2015. I live a rural area where there is no cell service so have to use my T-Mobile smart phone to send and receive calls via WiFi and Exede. The quality of the phone is rather hit and miss with people saying my voice is real choppy or the call drops in the middle of a conversation. I use Netgear for my WiFi. Sometimes the phone service is perfect; I'm wondering if it may have to do with latency in the Exede Network. Do others have the same issue?

I have Exede Voice so, don't have any issues with calls over the network. You might want to look into that. My cell phone is only enabled for DATA over WiFi, not voice. That would use my bandwidth while Exede voice does not count toward my allowance.

Thanks for responding Bev. I live in Hawaii and Exede does not offer Voice yet. But I was able to get a land line so that it now my primary source for phone. I then use my cell when I am near a tower. I'm grandfathered into an Exede 150 GB plan for two more years so am not too worried about my data usage ;)

Hi Greg.

With WiFi calls much like AT&T microcell has really been hit and miss with satellite internet. Some people say it works fantastic, others say not so much because of latency. The good thing is you have plenty of data going for you but these wifi cell phone calls have kinda been hit and miss largely. Much like gaming. If other devices are groggy or not working quite up to snuff maybe we can look at the router possibly being the problem area but we've had this scenario a few times.

Thanks for the technical insights Brad. My Exede System was installed on 12/17/2014. Is there a way for you to view my router and see if I have the latest hardware updates.

Greg, this is a public forum so you may want to remove your account number from your post. ANYONE can view it here.

As for your router, you should be able to go to the manufacturer's website and check for software and firmware updates for it.

Most routers have a selection to check for latest software updates, normally in the Admin section of the router. You just need to log in to the router dashboard to access this.
