You can get lower ping, or latency, by switching to a ground based ISP, or a cell service. Unfortunately, fr me, and most of us on satellite, those options are not available.
A few minutes of your time searching through the Viasat website and you would have seen that playing some games just won't work. Not sure who you talked to about getting the internet, but many of the third party wholesalers, and even some of the Viasat phone sales people will tell you anything to get a sale, and a commission.

Whoever told you that satellite was good for all games didn't know what they were talking about.

Half the web pages time out on image loads. That has absolutely NOTHING to do with latency.

You are also 100% correct in saying that some folks hear only what they want to hear. I've had customers say I said things that I never did. For some, if they think it, it MUST be true.

He is no longer on the dealer advisory counsel anymore either. But with what has happened lately, not sure if Viasat is listening to that counsel anyhow (if it still exists).

Here is a link about some video games that may or may not work with satellite internet. As Old Lab pointed out satellite internet has latency. Diana

Yes you may have lag during raids, dungeon groups and such but, sometimes that's the game regardless of your connection. The 600+ latency really isn't a big deal in many games, it is in some but you just need to choose games where having a 30ms ping isn't so critical to enjoying the game.
Using tools like Leatrix Latency fix or NCPing does help with rubber banding and such, might want to search for those.
As for video, if you have a liberty plan you can turn the video data extender off to watch HD video, if you have an Unlimited plan, then video quality is hard set by Viasat and, you cannot watch HD unless your plan allows it.

Have to use one of those big controllers. Used to sell these at my Radio Shack

This is the cartridge I bought
https://www.amazon.com/NES-Super-Games-Multi-Cart-Nintendo/dp/B0796GTB1S/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid...
....has everything I wanted....Mario, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Millipede, etc
Don't think I spend much over $100 on all of it. I spent WAY more than that back in the day when I fed the arcade machines at the local 7-11

Now I just use the Raspberry Pi to play old games, but I still do break out the Flashback II every now and again.

I even bought a Pi Zero W, knowing full well that it was slow as molasses. Just having a computer that's slightly larger than a stick of gum, yet still have it play old games nearly as well as the Pi 3B+, is something else.
Unfortunately, though, the site most used for ROMs just stopped providing them. They were getting nervous about Nintendo and their habit of going after sites that host game ROMs, so they decided to stop providing them. ROMs are still out there and still easy to find, but this particular site had just about every game you could ever think of, and they were trustworthy, as well. They even had ROM packs. You could download a ROM pack that had every SNES action game, or every NES RPG game... that sort of thing. It was pretty nice. I got a few Atari 2600 games that I played when I was a kid, too.

The thing is, my spell (skill) rotation isn't what's recommended and, neither is my use of attribute points. I left a lot of the DoT and Crowd Control spells low or skipped them entirely, focusing on High burst, High crit and, single target control spells. When you can cast 2 fewer spells that lad based players, you have to maximize the effect of what you can do. You have to be able to kill in fewer hits than those that have better ping to be competitive.
Now I'm working on 8 different characters in Aion, building them up and, getting my rotation down for that open world PvP always on game. I have one that's just 5 levels below max now and, will max out this week, as a gunslinger, a class that relies on speed, movement and, the ability to strafe. Right now he's in the top 25 PvE , just starting serious PvP content but, so far, is proving to be nearly impossible to kill - can't kill my character if you can't catch him and, with the help of using my attack speed buffs and, a movement speed buff, plus stacking the subscriber buff for being a paid player, which adds another 5% to movement speed, I've managed to compensate for the lag.
Yes, it means spending a bit of cash to be competitive in a PvP game but, 15.00 a month is not much to spend to gain the edge you need.
With games, just don't choose a first person shooter and, do a little trial and error, the common or favored, recommended rotations and styles might not be right for satellite, most are based on pings under 100 ms, six to eight times that means you may need a different style and rotation to compete.

This is a limitation of satellite internet, and can't be fixed.

On a side note, I noticed that say you are up the stairs on second then later you are back down the stairs again. It’s so annoying. Though you’re stuck with it. We’re on the bronze plan so streaming, Facebook, and 180hp (HD) on YouTube just won’t work with it.
We’re already over due on our plan and can’t even use Netflix until AUGUST. I mean not bad but you really have to watch at how much you’re using.
My advice, don’t get the bronze plan. Get gold or something. Despite it being expensive it’s probably worth it if you’re an x-box or PC mmo-gamer.
I have to make some sacrifices to YouTube and Twitter because it uses so much background GB.
A typical 15 minute use of YouTube uses about 870MB per hour, and that’s only streaming in 780hp. Let alone 180hp.
A regular 480hp video chews up 30 frames per second. Before committing to an internet provider, look at what you’re getting yourself into first.
Check the reviews, see how much MB/GB a game uses. Always compare and contrast before you buy plans. The research will be worth it in the end, especially if you’re a twitch streamer and Fortniter like me.
Hope this helped.
