will forgetting to cut off wifi cause over usage? I only have cell and lap top pc....and I work ten hour days and don't have time to use data.

I just turn my exede modem off when I am not using it. Is that a bad thing to do ? I also turn off my 4G aircard and Cradlepoint router as well as night.

Doing so breaks sync with the gateway ... that will affect the accuracy and timeliness of the usage meters and so forth.
You would be better serviced I think by just disconnecting the LAN cable from the rear of the Modem. That keeps everything in "sync" but makes it 100% certain that nothing on your network can connect or use data.

Yes point taken but it seems to sync up with the gateway very quickly. The usage meter is broken anyway, so that is sort of a mute point now. lol

Valid point but it still pays to have your own "measurement point:" to either confirm or compare your usage to what is claimed by your ISP. If you have no data how can you begin to build a case for investigation of ..... flaky Algorithms used by your ISP.
Remember Engineers while only respond to ... data.

I never turn the power off to my modem, except when I need to reset it. My modem and router run off a UPS with battery backup, so it gets power that is much purer than that from my rural electric coop. The life of electronic devices can be reduced by cycling power often. Each time the power is turned on, there is a shock to many of the components which can cause some damage or reduce its useful life.

I would debate that with you Steve. There is also a Mean Time to Failure figure based on the hours of operation of an electrical piece of equipment. The more running hours the equipment accumulates then the more likely it is to fail. Is that worse than the turn on stresses, I don't know. Somehow I doubt it but It may well depend upon specific circuit design.
