Hi Sheryll,
If I understand your question right, the issue of choosing low or high quality for videos and movies, does come up is several older post.

I personally have noticed that the low setting for streaming movies out of NetFlix save data with no noticeable difference in the watching quality.

Videos from YouTube, will show a lack of fine detail, when downloaded at a lower setting.

Other Flash type video display programs might limit there access to the user settings, and are pre-set by the video editor, producer.

Hope it helps,
Everett

Not entirely sure what you are asking, Sheryll.  In youtube, on the bottom right corner of the video you have an option to manually select the video quality settings.  In netflix, you make a one time change, and it changes the video quality in every case, until you change the setting again.  Where to find these settings, and what options they offer, differ greatly from website to website, application to application.  If you tell us specifically what video source you are referring to, we may be able to give you more specific tips.

i was not thinking clearly when I posted this :/ it should of really been a question for DirecTv . When I 1st started to record On Demand HBO I had the option to record in low or high quality a few times & then the option quit coming up. The other night it took 2 hours to record a 1 hour episode. I haven't been able to find a way to record lower quality since the pop up asking what quality you want to record in never comes up any longer.

Hi Sheryll,
I do not use DirecTv, but I would suggest looking under the admin or settings area of your interface with DirecTv.

And or, it might be is the same type of setting's online for HBO on demand. When you login to your account, there should be something.

Last, but not least, Google It.

Hope it helps,
Everett

As most said, each program, application, utility has it's caveat. PVR's ARE a different case...from downloading. Only use to two Replay TV and TIVO. But admin or settings are a way to go to use less disk space....and most cable/satellite carriers use some form of those devices. Yahoo, as said earlier, has a  clip on the bottom to change; although it's rare to find a video above 360/480 p. But streaming is a little different as TIME vs GBs is very little difference where you are limited to the amount. If no interruptions, a 90 min video will use up you GB allotment at about the same rate. 480, 720 or 1080 at NEARLY the same rate.
