why does my Internet turn itself off frequently

lately my connection will be working just fine and the weather will be clear and bright outside but the signal (even before I use all my fast data) drops and the modem appears to go into 'sleep' mode. The power is on, the indicator light for download stays lit continuously, but there is no connection unless I unplug the modem for a minute and plug it back in again.

Hmm that's something we'll want to take a look at Micheal. On technical things like this it might be better to call us at 855-463-9333 as the issue happens so we have a better shot at diagnosing and troubleshooting the problem.

Just a wild guess on my part, but Micheal Rainwater might want to measure the length of cable between his modem and the TRIA on the dish.  I was advised that Exede specifications state that it should be at least 40 feet.  As originally installed, mine was a lot less than that and my modem was constantly going offline until another technician came out and replaced the cable run with a longer cable.  After that, I had no more problems of that nature.

Interesting. My coax is around 15 feet in length and I have never had any trouble with the modem going off. In fact I have had rock solid connections with both Exede and the old WildBlue even on rainy nasty days. I will only loose my connection during  the worst summer storms and then for maybe 5 minutes or less.

I agree that its interesting and the cable is approxmately 30 feet long, but this is a recent problem, that just started occuring on the last 10 days or so. Even during a hail storm we have had fairly good connections and speeds, this intermitant stuff appears to be something different.

I am having the same problem. My computer diagnostics states that it is being turned off at the internet providers end and to contact them.
