Why does Excede charge $20 a mo. to put our service on hold while we are away 6 mo. for the winter? If your thinking about signing up with Excede be aware of this charge!

It sounds like you are referring to our Vacation Plan.  This option allows you to suspend your service for a certain period of time, for a low monthly cost, instead of paying full price for services you are not utilizing.  If you have any other questions or concerns, please send me an email to exedelistens@viasat.com with your account and contact information.

It's actually $10/month to keep your plan active, but you also have to pay your lease fee as well. It's an option many people asked for that we implemented last year.

I think it sounds fair. Otherwise a person would have to pay regular rate and not be using there data and don't think internet service would just put your account on hold. But then again wouldn't know because wildblue and Exede are the only internet services I have ever used except for dial up.

How does one implement the "Vacation Plan" and what is the minimum time to go on "vacation"? Seems it ought to be week to week, since most people don't go on vacation for months at a time. I understand the equipment is sitting there whether we are home or not and am not contesting the equipment lease portion of the monthly charge, but why should we customers have to pay for the data portion of the plan when we are not home to use it? In fact, why don't we get to carry over ALL the unused data from month to month since we are PAYING for it and then there might not even be a need to go on the "vacation plan"?

Hello Irwin, if you have our Exede service you have the ability to place your current package on a Vacation Plan at least six months within any calendar year. You would still have a monthly lease fee however it would be allot smaller than your currently monthly cost. Unfortunately the data cannot be carried over month to month as GB’s are only for one month of service I will be more than happy to discuss your options please  send me an email to exedelistens@viasat.com with your account and contact information.
