I've unplugged mine while I was out and I just noticed I've used up all of my data.  I knew it had slowed down a bit.

That's correct. They always have an excuse. I plan on taking a 2 week vacation in June. We shall see what happens.

James,

IF you're not really stupid, don't act like you are.  The usage data is held in the modem and must be "polled" to be updated at Viasat and you apparently know this, so why the stupid act?  Unplug your modem and the usage showing will not change at Viasat until it has been plugged back in for a few hours.  It's rather simple.

 Judy,

No excuses.  People are griping about things they have no idea of how they work.  When you go on vacation, take heed what was said to James concerning unplugging the modem.  If you do unplug the thing, make sure you check your usage every day from a different system while you are gone and see if it changes.  Do let us know what you find.

that is why you give it 30mins to "Catch up" with all wireless off then unplug the Ethernet cable from the back of it and leave it off while leaveing the modem powered on :) then wait a few hours and check from dashboard on your cellphone or public wifi :) if no useage then it was on your end, if useage then point it out to them ,DO NOT PLUG IT BACK IN until they escalate it or resolve it.

Isn't there a disclaimer that it can take up to 24 hrs to update?  30 minutes is rushing things.  There are around 650,000 modems for the tabulating computer to sift through and reconcile readings.

Gary,

"Why did my data usage increase while I was on vacation"

Answer: Because you powered off the modem. When you power off the modem you break the connection between the Modem and the Gateway. This means that the modem is unable to report the data you used between the last "sync cycle" and the powering down.

The best method is to:

Disconnect the Ethernet cable(s) between your devices and the Modem but leave the modem powered up.

If using the WiFi modem it is necessary to disable all WiFi functions (2.4 and 5,0 Ghz and all guest accounts),
