I am a new user to Exede and want to avoid over-use of my data plan, so I want to do some late-night downloading of movies.  My problem is that I hear different things about which HD DVR units are compatible with satellite internet and Exede in particular.  Any advice?

Hi Mike, if you are using our service in combination with DirecTV Genie, or Dish Network's Hopper, the on demand feature downloads the program to the HD on your DVR.  If this happens outside of the LNFZ this can be a significant amount of usage (4.6 GB for a 2 hour movie).  What some of our customers do is start the download at the beginning of the LNFZ, then watch it the next day at their leisure.

I am not using DirecTV or Dish and don't plan to.  I just want to download/record Netflix movies overnight for later viewing.  That's possible, right?

But this is RIDICULOUS! I don't want to have to worry about timing it correctly so I can use a feature that is included in my Directv package. Does no one at this company see how ridiculous this is?!?!

You do realize that direct tv and exede are two different companies, and one's policies are irrelevant to the other's?

Obviously.. But Directv promoting exede when you sign up for their satellite service is stupid.

We use DTV and a simple timer.  See the post   http://www.dbstalk.com/topic/206911-can-it-be-this-simple/?hl=%2Bexede#entry3166613    for an explanation.

Good Luck,  Bobbin

Is there one HD DVR hardware box that is better or more compatible with Exede than another?  Will Tivo work, for instance?

Mike, as far as I know there's not one that's more compatible than any others.
