WHERE is my data allowance going??? I've even bought more and still it's messed up. For several months now I have had nothing but issues and getting very TIRED of it. I do not play games nor watch very many videos, the ones I watch are very short, if any. I am VERY unhappy with your servcie and due to not being under contract anymore, I think I'll need to find a different company that isn't ripping people off.

Hi Anne. I realize it is frustrating but what is happening is one or more of your connected devices is using data that you are not aware of. I had to become a data sleuth when I first got sat internet and I finally figured it out. Here is a thread I posted a while back that will help you
https://community.exede.com/exede/topics/here-are-some-tips-on-controlling-data-usage

I imagine in your case you are going to find that your smart devices are set to auto download and auto update, both of those can use many, many gigs per month and since data transmission is invisible, you don't see it going on.

Anne,

In addition to the thread linked above, if you send your account info to us at ExedeListens@viasat.com, we can provide you a breakdown, so you can see what is using your data.

Thanks, I called and they looked and said it was my automatic updates and turn them off. So, I go try to do that and it's something with Skype, which I have no clue what that is. I tried signing up for it but they sent a code number to my LANDLINE phone as cell phones do not work where I live. Umm, you can't get a code number on a landline! I can't find any other place to change the update settings and don't have all day to sit here trying to figure it out when my speed is so slow. I give up, I have had nothing but problems for many months now, not only this but ,y service being totally out, which included my landline since it runs through your service also. I'll be looking elsewhere for a company who can offer better service and help and will be DONE with this. Not sure how a person is suppose to update if it uses all your data time up??????  I have a feeling this is another issue, not an honest one either as I have read many others are having problems and will be contacting the BBB.

Anne, absolutely EVERYTHING you do online uses some data and, that includes updates, whether you manually update or, allow your operating system and, various programs to update automatically. Most programs, browsers and such have setting that allow you to choose when or if it automatically checks for updates. Unless it's something critical, like your anti virus, you need to turn it off for all of them and, manually check operating system updates monthly, the rest only as needed.

Graphics cars update frequently but, unless you are a gamer, you probably don't need to take every single update. If it isn't giving you problems for what you do, save the data and don't update. Adobe, browsers, iTunes, Java, etc... most programs and applications do check for updates frequently unless you turn that off. You have to do each one separately, there isn't a one button for all to turn off automatic updates.

I got the automatic updates turned OFF, Facebook videos don't play unless I click (had to set it that way way back) bought ANOTHER $20 worth of data and guess what?? Still slow as snot. WHY didn't I have this problem before? This is my third year with this company, have my landline through them also and getting very upset. I will NOT upgrade to another package as I am starting to smell something fishy.

If this is your third year, maybe a look at your equipment is in order?  Dish alignment, crud on your cable, etc.  A service call may be all you need.
