What's the difference? Dish vs Internet?

I constantly receive mail ads from Dish for TV.
Their most recent ad is for $49/month with a 3 year guarantee, and Netflix is included.
How can they stream TV and movies, unlimited, for that cost?
Why does Exede charge for every byte?
What is the difference?
Why can't Exede do what Dish does, only for internet?
I just want to understand the difference.

Dish uses your internet connection to stream movies from NetFlix, Hulu, etc. (read the fine print).

Just switched from DirecTV to Dish myself - but took the multisport pack instead which was then offered as an alternative for 1 year. Guess I should have waited since it was only a two year price lock when I switched (regardless same offering as DirecTV at $34 per month less). Just got tired of the yearly price negotiation with DirecTV and apparently they didn't believe me when I threatened a switch this go round since they didn't counter until after I switched and canceled  - just as well their prices are going up again in a few days anyway.

For now I'm happy to just record as much of the free premium trials as possible.
