also you can look online at the list of local dealers and call around and see if any of them have exede voice setup in house as a demo for you to try out before you get it :)

I already have the freedom plan so there would be small incentive for an installer to meet me at a third party location to display their wares since there would be zero sum gain for their effort. the only viable proof of performance would be a guarantee from the provider, as far as I can determine.

There was just a 6 month contract on the phone. But check first they might have changed it.

Bobbie is correct, there is a 6 month service agreement. As for a demo setup, we have dealers all around the country that have showroom setups with Exede internet and phone. They are there whether you go or not, so you won't be hurting anything.

I currently have the freedom plan.

From a couple of sales calls they told me the voip/phone service was 19.99 and was not added to my monthly usage. So was that factual, the bandwidth usage and is the total 19.99 and are there equipment fees not already covered in the freedom plan, i.e. 19.99/month in total for the bundle? Should be zero installation or additional equipment.

$29.99 /mo.
Bundle with Exede Internet and save $10/mo.
Details & Restrictions

From exede-disclaimer.pdf:

“Exede Freedom plan is subject to Bandwidth Usage Policy”

Thank you for any clarification.

It's been stated elsewhere, but you are correct, it does not count toward your usage. There are no equipment fees and it is usually a self-install, we just mail the voice adapter to you.

I subscribed to ExedeVoice for $19.99 per month for the first 6 months, then it will go to $29.xx per month.  Phone data does NOT count against your data plan.  There is a slight delay in a conversation, about 700 milliseconds but has not been any problem.  A total chatterbox person will not enjoy needing to give the other person a chance to talk.

truly helpful and from the research quite accurate. the latency thing may present an issue but then we used straight wildblue back in 2006 on a company vpn, which was rancid. I know from the data stream so far it is a vast improvement.

Thank you.

Yep, that all checks out. There is a slight delay at the very start of the call as it all travels round trip to connect everything, but beyond that it shouldn't be an issue.

It's all threw your conversation not just at the start of the call Beau, but In my case a new phone really helped in the delay, it seems like you are talking over the other party and vice versa, but if you both talk at a slower / normal pace it's a good deal.

David,

From what I know of their VoIP service the regular price is 29.99 a month as far as if you can get the $10 a month discount for the few 6months or what ever would be a question you would have to ask the social media team in an e-mail with your account information. The data does not count toward your monthly usage (not that it matters because you are lucky enough to have the freedom plan). There is additional equipment but it's just a small adapter that connects directly to your surfbeam modem and from there you can connect your router if you have one. Reason I say to go test it at a local delar is I've heard there is a little latency between you and the person on the other end. That is to be expected do to the long distances the data is traveling (from your dish to space and then back). Anything else we can try to answer just ask away.

Knight Rider,

"test it at a local dealer" that I will try to run down, though from the connection we have, the functionality, few pages that require refreshing, the latency does not seem that much, plus the phone is not that vital, still, need it. the usage limit is not in fact a major deal but the sales calls did say it was not included but they did not mention the 6 month time limit on the 10 buck discount. not a deal breaker but does tend to make me a little cautious rather than if they just up front said it is what it is. too, above, no mention at all of any discount. i'll call, just wanted some ground rules first

thank you for taking the time to help a guy out.

Any time, I am fimular with VoIP service as the company I work for several of our locations have it. Of corese it's tied in to a shortel phone system but none the less the same service at the core. Why they didn't mention the discount I do not know, there have been many complaints about the phone tech support leaving something to be desired. Your best option is to send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com with your account contact info and reference this post and talk to one of the three reps here. They would be your best option to get the correct facts, all the facts and fine print questions answered in detail!!!

so, given all this excellent reference info and my complete satisfaction with exceed freedom /9 live on 60 acres smack top dead center of no place florida aka no other real options aside from cell packages=suck) I am dropping the Verizon at home (one day fine/next you have your 2 tin cans with string quality) and going with exceed voip. really do not see a lose on this. I do pay 24.99 for the same options but as mentioned: Verizon at home is "like a box of chocolates, you never know...."

thanks to all those so willing to help.
