Weather??? | Viasat Internet Community

Perfect weather this evening. No rain within 400 miles. Yet, we lose connection for 15+ minutes and when the satellite reconnects it says we have poor signal due to weather. That is hilarious. However, I am impressed that Viasat can fix the weather, at least they have an option to Help me fix that.

Could be bad weather at the Gateway.

As Micheal McDowell indicated, it's entirely possible it was due to weather at your gateway location, which is nowhere near you. Your gateway is one of two ground stations for your service, with your home being the second. The satellite is, more or less, like a very sophisticated mirror, reflecting the signal from the gateway's dish to your dish, and vice versa.

If there is inclement weather at your gateway it can affect your service in the same way as weather at your own location, though it usually takes harsher weather at the gateway to do so. When this happens there is nothing to fix, but rather wait until it passes.
