We received a phone call today, and I want to make sure it's legit before I call back....

We received a phone call, telling us that Exede had experienced a large amount of slow speeds lately and they were offering a free tech call to check things out. Now I haven't noticed anything terribly slow here at home lately, *knocks on wood*, things have been fairly status quo here. We had some issues several months ago, but we worked through all that.

I have a name and a phone number (which upon looking up, is a local cell number for our area) . I guess my question is, before I call her back and risk some sort of scam, I want to be sure it is something Exede really is doing. Being that the number is a local cell number and not a 800 or 866 etc, I'm skeptical. I don't want to post the name or number publicly unless it's necessary just in case.

Thanks for any help.

Doesn't sound legit to me since there are no charges on tech calls to exede---at least I've never heard of any charges and have called many times. (They also solve every problem I've had, except for when my grandchildren watch hours of movies when they visit.)

It didn't sound legit to me either. In all the years we've been with Exede (and previously WildBlue), the only time we've ever received a phone call about a promotional thing is when they were introducing Exede and offered the early upgrade. Anytime we've ever had an issue either technical or otherwise, it's been up to me to call into them. Thanks for your reply.

I would send the info to exedelistens@viasat.com and that way they can research it and take action if necessary.

Hello Jennifer,

Sometimes we do flag an account to where we notice the signal is weak and do a call. It might have been a dealer, but again it could have not been us. I would recommend calling our customer support line at 855-463-9333 to see if we flagged your account or not and then from there we can determine if the call was valid or not

VIA/SAT-EXEDE uses a local sub contractor, where I'm at. I have his cell number. I've called him more than once.

We have a local business that installs Exede, Dish and Hughes.  Maybe your local guy is trying to drum up some new business?
Go to ViaSat's link to see how your modem is working:  http://192.168.100.1/?page=basicStatus
I wouldn't call him back until after calling Exede, as it might constitute a service call fee.

Thanks for the replies.  ExedeBrad, I emailed exedelistens@viasat.com last night and explained the situation. I am waiting for a reply now.  I had thought it might be a local dealer, but being that I've never had to use anyone local outside of contacting Exede myself, and them contract someone to come out, it just made me skeptical.
