My VS2 modem will occasionally turn purple and no devices will have internet access. I've been able to log into the router and it seems the router has lost it's internet IP, Default Gateway, and all DNS servers. After about 15 minutes they'll show back up on their own and another 15 minutes after that the internet will be back. I can't help but feel like the fact that the CPU cores is running at 86 degrees Celsius is part of the issue and if it has a fan built it, it doesn't run at all. Is there anything I can do about this?

Hi mangoodbad 13, Please send an email to viasatlistens@viasat.com with your account and contact information. We'll get this to our technicians to take a look at the information. Diana

CPU CORE TEMP 82 °C / 180 °F
FAN SPEED (RPM) 3221

I’m a new customer and have seen the same thing from day one. No cooling fan operation ever, core averages 188 F. Occasional purple lights and telephone voip drops. This morning the .100.1 shows RX S/N over 9 and speeds of 62mbps but the viasat diagnostics are reporting an alignment and network signal strength problem - which is obviously spurious.

What does your modem look like? Is it a triangle?

Your signal is fine now & been up for almost 3.5 hrs.
Once you drop connection, give us another screen shot

Thanks Bob... I’m more concerned that the internal fan never runs. I added a 4” muffin fan about 5 minutes ago (see photo) and the idu core temp has already dropped 50 Degrees F - which is as low as it’s ever been.

I have more than one ISP here
I have never paid any attention to the core temp nor fan speed
My VS2 modem has been idling for days
My fan speed is 0
And my temps at idle are:
CPU CORE TEMP 86 °C / 187 °F
My VS2 modem has been running since the very first day our beam opened
If you drop connection again, capture statistics & post 'em

Jeepers,
Now you got me checking again & again
Short Ted talk video, and now:
CPU CORE TEMP 95 °C / 203 °F
and fan at 0
Then fan kicked in
3792 Fan Speed
83 °C / 181 °F

I’m not really comfortable with chip temps that high - the maximum recommended temp for modern CPUs is about 176F - I’m fairly sure that nominal resting temps over 10 degrees higher will greatly shorten MTBF. Like, GREATLY shorten it. Since a muffin fan running at 1/2 voltage, externally placed, drops the temp 55 degrees I believe there might be a firmware error allowing that cpu to idle at 188 and not turn on the fan till 212. Just my thought, based on long experience with satellite and electronics ...

Heat kills electronics. No doubt about that.

I also have a fan on my modem. However I have it pulling the air out of the modem and not blowing it in. My modem averages about 60 °C to 95 °C all the time.
I also haven't heard the fan until it is rebooted and that's for a very short time.
