Viasat plans suspended in my area

I know some people have said the "Unlimited" plans have disappeared from their location and Liberty plans are back. I can one up that. Viasat isnt even taking new customers in my area now!

No wonder my beam has slowed to a crawl. Now it is oversold with "unlimited" plans and Viasat-2 is nowhere to be seen where I live. If it was, I suspect they would still be taking new customers.

What a mess. :(

Same here. Up until a few days ago, sales to new customers were limited to the dealer channel (no online ordering).

Now they've been suspended due to strong demand; however, there is a hint of things to come with:

However some dealers in my area are advertising availability of Viasat-2 plans to new customers (Gold 50 is showing).

Beam 329, recently suspended plans for new customers. I am on the Freedom plan and really happy with the data amount, just have, err, had dreams of faster speeds, based on Viasat's marketing. I do not want to be stuck with 480p, either. I know, give us residential users (aka bottom feeders) an inch and we will want to take a mile.

Me too. I had dreams of more data and better speeds with Viasat 2. Looks like my dreams are either on hold or shattered altogether. So disappointing.

Not good for dealers that were hoping on $$$$ for Viasat-2 installs.

My wife mentioned the net has been running slow and it also seemed like it to me too so when I saw this I said "ok now I understand". But my rant was nipped in the bud by normal speeds.

All depends on the day and time of day. Congestion is happening at times or they wouldn't be shutting off beams from new subs completely.

Oh my.  Up through yesterday the 12Mbps Unlimited plans were available for my area (Bronze, Silver and Gold), and now nothing at all.  Isn't that interesting?  Well, for the longest time it wasn't available in my area, anyway, and now it's back to that.  Very surprising.

I do have to give Kudos to Viasat for this, though.  They recognize when an area is, or is on the verge of being, oversold.  My ISP would just continue to keep adding customers, regardless, and the beams would get slower and slower and slower.  Kudos to Viasat for pulling the plug when they should.

Agreed. Just hope not too late. Also shows don't expect Viasat-2 to make an appearance in these areas anytime soon :(.

As I've said a few times, my Exede 5 area has said "no new subscribers" since '12 except a few weeks one time (that I noticed, checking every now and then).  I do see "UNLIMITED BRONZE 12, UNLIMITED SILVER 25, UNLIMITED GOLD 50" in a zipcode 70 miles away (which was closed as well).  So it's there anyway.

HN may pack in subscribers, but at least it works, and it's cheaper than what's coming.  Many people in my area dropped Exede 5 for HN because they got fed up.  Still not good, but at least it's better than Ex. 5 (and available).  I mentioned to someone the plans that have been circulating, I can't post a direct quote of the response without being censored, but basically they said no way they were paying $80 for home Internet (and the person is certainly not "poor").  There's no way I'd drop my 2.5 meg home cell Internet for that either, especially with the limitations compared to what I have.

They could have figured out a budget plan of some sort in the $50 range, capped, slowed, whatever, no way they couldn't have figured something out.  They might at some point, but it's getting to the point where not many people around me care.  No options available allow for practical streaming much better than what they have, so most just keep tv.  Some with families just download stuff for offline if/when in cell range (Veriz. deprioritization is barely noticeable here).

I could understand giving up Exede 5 for Hughesnet. I mean Exede 5 is half s step above 2006 Wildblue Classic

I so wish that prospective customers did their research so they could understand this.  I don't know how many posts I've read where people complain about running out of data because they've watched a few movies on Netflix.  SMH.  Satellite internet is NOT made for cord cutting.  If you watch a lot of TV, or even just the "normal" amount of TV, get sat TV.

It's not rocket science.  If you've got a 50GB plan and HD Netflix burns through 3GB per hour, guess what!  SMH.

I actually saw a post not too long ago where someone was pitching a fit because they "discovered" they couldn't do much 4K streaming with my ISP.  Um...DUH!!!  SMH.  Absolutely clueless.

People get pretty indignant and the issue is their lack of understanding what satellite internet is and what it is not. I have been on it since 2001. I probably would not be complaining now if Viasat told us bottom feeders the satellite would not impact our service one way or other outside of some good data options if you catch it when it is available.

"There's no way I'd drop my 2.5 meg home cell Internet for that either" -

I don't understand. 2.5 Mbps is very slow speed, compared to 12 Mbps of Viasat 1/2. Or, if you mean 2.5 GB cap, this is also very little compared to 12 GB of Viasat. Cell phone plans are rarely better or cheaper per GB than sat internet.

"They could have figured out a budget plan of some sort in the $50 range, capped, slowed" -

They did, before unlimited plans.  Old post, but I see now 12GB cap for $50 where they recently advertised unlimited for $70.  I personally don't care about speeds with a capped plan, anything over 5 Mpbs is fine - as somebody noted, capped is not for watching internet TV.

2.5 Meg speed average. If I'd clear about 1/4 mile of my trees I'd get closer to 4. It is not a cell phone plan. It is a cell home internet plan through a regional carrier. I'm grandfathered on an old plan. 200GB cap, it's $50 per month. Their new plans are similar to satellite, $30 for 25GB at up to 8 Meg, plus unlimited after midnight to 7am. $50 for 50 GB. They are upgrading to new service that is in some areas, but it requires line of sight. $35 for 5 Meg, $45 for 10, and $65 for 15. All unlimited, but after 15GB PER DAY, they may prioritize. Still, many people in my area can't get any of this because they're too far from the tower, I'm on the edge.

$50, I was referring to the new VS2 plans. $80 with lease for the lowest plan is more than most people I've talked to want to pay. I had Wildblue from '06 through '12, I had a $50 plan (purchased equipment so no lease fee), at 0.5 meg, 7.5GB download cap, 2.3GB upload cap. I think at least some people would agree it's a reasonable price point for basic access of some kind.

Speed doesn't matter beyond a certain point, correct. I can stream hd well most of the time. And average page loading is faster than Exede 5 or Hughes here.

This is interesting.  I typed in a zip code that was covered by Viasat 2 last week, and now there are no plans listed.

I wonder if the antenna problem that Viasat 2 has is worse than they're leading on.

I would look around to see if you can find a local installer that would move the dish for you, off the books.  The system would still work fine if it was only moved that far.

Lanie N take the online test move your dish 2 houses down. Viasat will never know. You can find a local installer who will move it for sure. Don't give up freedom (new). Not know with these changes going on with plans.

ALL dealers are crooks except 1.  (well, there might be 2 or hey.... zero??)

Pay the $95  ?  to get the dish moved.  May want new install price because that's the amount of work that will need to be done.  It's worth it.

Get a P.O. Box and change the billing address on your account so any mail will get to you.

Freedom is precious, never let go of it.

P.S.  NEVER talk to customer service.... ever.

I highly doubt that.  You'll still be crying about no new VS2 plans yet in your area.  I have confidence in you. And when they do come, you will be crying about how expensive they are or how bad they are.

yeah when i called the customer service and ratted them out about my slow speeds... i had the longest conversation with a nice woman... i told her why not put a limit of how many people can be on each beam... and tell them that satellite internet is only an option if you dont have cable internet or dsl internet... she said yeah we did put a limit of how subcribers are on a beam... onto my beam there are like 5,000 and something people @>@ i was like HOLY COW!!! @>@ thats alotta people @>@ then... she told me that when the unlimited plans where out... they noticed the plans where popular and stuff... now when she looked at my account... she said that... imma onto the grandfather plan :3 i said to her... what is a grandfather plan @>@ and she said to me... its the plan you are on right now... she said that they no longer offer that plan anymore... so therefore... she told me i was so lucky to be on that plan @>@ so i told her... ill just stay onto viasat-1 cause i love my plan so much :3 and hoping people will switch the viasat-2 :3

plus... onto my beam... they no longer do service in my beam cause there are enough people on it... so therefore... she also told me that... they are going into details of what kind of questions they ask there customers to get an idea of what there usage is... if they are on a higher plan and the customer wants to switch... they will go into details of questions they ask them... then therefore... the represenitive will get an idea of what plan would be good for them :3 cause apperently ive used a little over 100gbs in feburary and 100gbs some in march :3 now my plan has reset :3 so now i can download more anime :3 BUT!!! imma gonna watch the anime ive downloaded :3 (its gonna be a couple of days of me watching the 1st series of the anime then ill go onto the 2nd series and so on :3  the total episode of the anime imma watching is 76 episodes minumun of 17-18 minutes of the show :3    )

but... imma glad that viasat has putted a stop the putting more people onto my beam :3 NO WONDER IT WAS GETTING SLOWER AND SLOWER ON MY BEAM @>@ BUT!!! glad they did that though :3

The Silver, Bronze, and Gold plans with 150GB of priority data are gone. The priority data has been significantly reduced in all of them. Freedom is also gone.

To get 150GB of data now in a plan, you have to pay north of $200, if that plan is even available at your location.

8 Pm, 4.2 down, 2.9 fast.com on the silver 25, 150 plan, since i only used 90.2 G in March they may have given me a slight bump :), but probably not, lol.

Reasonable speeds for the current situation.
