Usage meter reports 15 times more upload than download

Your usage meter says that I use 10 to 20 times as much upload as I use download, for example: 0.2 download to 2.8 upload. How is this possible when I do not upload images or videos; my wifi is secure, and I am the only user? How do you define 'download' and 'upload'?

Not knowing what operating system you use or what applications, cloud backup applications and Windows Update Delivery Optimization (WUDO) on Windows 10 come to mind as possibilities.

If using Windows 7, 8 or 10 try installing Glasswire (https://www.glasswire.com/) and it will tell you in no uncertain terms what's going on.

I agree Windows 10 - Update settings, it may be sharing updates via the internet, thus uploading those big updates in the background. You need to set it to share with either no one, or your LAN only (if you have more than one home computer using Windows 10.)

Hello CRP,

Please send us your account and contact info to exedelistens@viasat.com so that we can help identify what your usage went towards. In regards to what our forum members have said, I agree that I have seen quite a bit of data consumption through Windows Updates as well.

Thanks for y'alls comments! I did turn off update sharing on both our windows 10 machines.
I bought Glasswire 10 days ago, and it is showing ~10x download volume to upload on my machine. I haven't installed it on our second machine yet.
And I emailed my account number etc to Excede Lindsay.
Appreciate y'all.
