Sharp rise in usage - Exede does listen!

I've been a customer for almost 7 years. It's been great. Over the past 6 months we began to notice a sharp rise in usage. I spent the next few weeks, on and off, trying to get to the bottom of the problem, and after joining this forum, came up with two really helpful solutions:
Then I told Firefox not to download updates without asking me. Still, our usage was high. So I finally emailed: exedelistens@viasat.com and they told me exactly what happened during a recent spike: our Adobe Updaters were still downloading stuff! Which solved everything, once I told our computers to ask before downloading updates. So yes, Exede does listen! You just have to stay on it and get to the right person.

Hope this helps anyone else who's struggling with high usage.

Hi Leanne,

Which one do you prefer, Adblockplus or Ublock? Please advise at your convenience.

That is what I have. It seems to work well for youtube. I have not tried the other one.

I use both. I get two little icons on the upper left of my browser telling me how many things they have blocked, which are a lot! I also turned off Facebook's auto-play video. It was a few weeks of playing digital whack-a-mole, but it was worth it.

The following add-on will handle autoplay (and preloading contrary to one of the commenters over there) of videos on other sites including Facebook:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flash-control/

P.S. Glad to see someone who came here a month ago skeptical about the advice being offered has been converted. Perhaps others will learn from your experience and your conversion ;)

P.S. Firefox, AdBlock Plus, Flash Control as well as tackling application automatic updates is a winning combination for most.

And if someone's using Win 10 make sure you are on a wireless connection so you can have metered connection turned on and stop all those widgets that it comes with running in the background. I put a USB wifi adapter in my desktop that had a wired connection and disabled the wired connection once I changed to Win 10..
