I'll believe it when I see it!   1995 called Exede, and they want their internet speeds back.  I was offered the 150gb plan a while back but has since disappeared, however but I chose to stay with my late night free zone to not deal with new problems

It didn't disappear you just didn't upgrade and everyone around you probably has it. Once they hit a certain number they pull back on promos

This is true, Freedom was something of a unicorn plan. Sometimes it appears and then it disappears just as quickly and it's all a matter of people jumping on the opportunity when it happened.

I signed up for UNLIMITED - which is is NOT unlimited.  They cap you at 60 GB and when you exceed that, you are slow when there is "internet traffic."  I have to use my AT&T hotspot to work because with speeds like .26 and .30 Mbps, I cannot even send or receive emails.  NOT ACCEPTABLE when  you are working from home!  Forget streaming!  I'm sick over this. I'm only one month in.  23 to go....

You're in what is supposed to be a "kinda good" area with the top speed being 50mbps.

That is concerning that you are being slowed down that much. Wasn't the way it was explained to me.

How do you know what beam you're on?

The tech can tell you what beam you are on....it's on the paperwork he'll have with him.

Please post back after the tech performs your service call and let me know what was done and IF your speeds return. There is another post that showed up tonight....a customer on Unlimited Gold. He went over his data and is seeing speeds that you reported 250kbps. Thanks in advance.

It's like the hard cap never disappeared!

So what is the difference between an "unlimited" plan and the old Exede Classic plans? The amount of priority data, no free zone, and a video resolution downgrader.

I mean dont say "unlimited" if you can't deliver speeds above 250kbps when you go over the priority cap!

For those of us fortunate to have 150GB of priority data, dont change to another plan!

Agreed on all points, VeranSatUser.  I almost feel like I've gotten the "bait and switch," though we will see after the tech comes out.  The tech on the phone felt like there was something wrong (though I had to spend more than three hours on the phone among 4 phone calls to get someone who took me seriously and seemed like they even cared).  I keep checking my options, knowing that they change frequently.

Andy - Thanks for the info.  I'll check with the tech about the beam and will let you know what he says.

**UPDATE** Tech just left my house (he's the one that installed system). I'm on Beam 728, which is the Viasat2 satellite.  They got my speeds up from .2  -2 to about 6 or 8.  Not stellar, but better.  Maybe now I can send emails?

According to him, he thought it was "unlimited" service (which is what he told me - no caps) and said he was "selling the lie."  NICE. Note to self: read contract before signing.  UGH!

**UPDATE 2** Speeds are still less than 1Mbps, doesn't seem to matter what time of day.  Is everyone using my beam at such high rates that I am throttled?  Ugh!  Resets on Monday - we shall see.  Viasat seems to think I am using about 10 GB per day, when I have no devices connected to it.  At that rate, I will blow through my "Unlimited" data in less than a week.

Good morning Terri, have you used all of your priority data?

If not then you have a software/hardware issue.   I think earlier your stated after a service call your speeds did increase.  Did they until you used your Pri data?

If you are using a lot of data for some unknown reason then examine your password on your router, (change it), any house smart devices, security cameras etc these items can use a lot of data.

Thanks, Johnny.  They did increase for a day or two.  Now back to below 1 Mbps at most times during the day.  I checked with viasat.  There is only one device connected - my laptop.  I have changed my password.  Looking at reviews from other customers, this is a common problem (data usage that does not seem valid).  Not sure what to do.

Terri,

What I suggest is, on a day, or at least a part of the day, in which you don't have to use the net for anything, or at least can refrain from it for a number of hours, disable the WiFi in the modem and disconnect any LAN connected devices.  After a number of hours, reconnect and check to see if any data was used.

Good morning Terri,

Post your Modem status numbers maybe someone here can provide some assistance..

Rx Power -25.3 dBm

Rx SNR 8.8 dB

ODU Telemetry status Active Cable Resistance 3.5 Ohm

Cable Attenuation 9.9 dB

The above are mine, i'm not saying they are good but i get pretty good reliable service.  My dish is on a pole and I have about 140 feet of cable from the dish to the modem, not ideal but it works and the dish is where i want it, next to my Directv pole, :)

You may have a cable issue with a connection, modem issue etc., but with the numbers someone might help shed some light, good luck.

My numbers above just gave these results at 10:20 AM

24.65 down 4.65 up,

during prime time i am 1 to 3 down and Fast.Com 860 to 1.1.

There is a beam in worse shape than beam 329, because 329 isn't the most congested beam..

Just counting the days until Viasat-2 when I know I will have options better than I have ever had before with Exede or Hughesnet!

Andy...the edge of 320. So I get a VERY congested beam along with a VERY low signal strength (most of the time below 6).

But I am very optimistic that Viasat-2 will make all the difference for me :)

I am sure nothing is changing Andy. And I am well aware it is one if not THE most congested beam. If I remember right, after about 6 months from its inception, the beam was closed to all but dealers selling subs. It never offered the Evolution plan and Liberty only recently became available.

Yes, been frustrated with poor speeds since almost the inception of my account. But the plus side is because I live in an area with a highly utilized beam, I trust Viasat will want to make sure an area with so many customers is serviced properly with Viasat-2 :).

M, you can visit this link for the map, along with the gateways serving each beam https://www.northlc.com/_images/beam_priority_map.png

You ca also send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com and ask what beam you are on. Be sure to include your account number and a phone number.

If you have the Exede WiFi modem/router, the information should be on the bottom of the router. If you have a third party router, that will depend on the make and model of your router, although many use the admin, admin to access the router internally, unless someone has changed the signin/password for it.

Basically, they are the centers that relay signal from the satellite to the ground based network.  There are several to spread the load, and provide backups, if necessary.

The path is Your Device (Computer, phone etc..) Your Router (if needed), Exede Modem, Exede Dish (at your home), Satellite in orbit, Gateway, internet, gateway, Satellite, Exede Dish, Exede Modem, Your router (if needed) Your Device.

The satellite has beams, like cones of areas it can send and receive signals within. Each beam can handle a certain total data throughput, each of us gets to use a portion of that capacity. Where you live or have the service installed determines which beam you are on and, which beam determines which gateway.

Beam 329 is awesome because it mostly covers areas with cable and FIOS options. My bud on VS1 beam 329 gets 5 mbs on weekend evenings. He has freedom 150/12 for $100. Was always jealous cause beam 328 was/is hella congested and only offered Liberty plans when I moved to VS2.

What??  Beam 329 is known to be an overloaded beam. Has been for years. Service starts slowing down about 5p and stays that way into the night. It has been worse, but it, in no way, would be equated with the word 'awesome'. How can anyone say that it mostly covers areas with cable and Fios? The majority of the area it covers is rural. My area is only offered Liberty 12 options. That is awesome???

In my Zip Code in the 329 service area, there are no plans whatsoever being offered to new customers on either bird. Up until recently there did appear to be some of the low end Viasat-2 plans available (beam unknown). However...

While Viasat is not currently available in your area, we're headed your way with super-fast services soon!

Let the Viasat-3 speculation begin as 2019 approaches... it's deja vu all over again.

I just checked and new customers in my zip (Beam 329) have available Unlimited Gold 50 Mbps ($150) and my understanding is that would be on the small beam on VS2?  As an existing customer, my option is Liberty 12 Mbps plans.

Probably a test for ViaSat 2 to see if we can offer the same widely when the plans release in a few months. I unfortunately don't have a lot of details this morning to offer more specifics but I will give the same advice I gave people when Freedom was popping up.....if you see it pounce on it!!! something most don’t understand is everyone’s beam is different just because you get that speed doesn’t mean every sub with the same package will it depends on traffic on ur subscribed beam a lot of people i run into complain about there speeds based on what a speed testing site has given them. my netflix streams in HD at 3mb down..

Very true. It is all about your beam. Some beams run with great speeds because there is not that traffic on them. But if you have a beam that gets hammered with traffic, your speeds won't be that great.

We have one foot on earth and the other in cyber space, therefore we are sometimes a little slow as we continually shift, transition from one to the other.

I ordered the family all new Iphone 8 pluses, the Verizon guy told me they were all in stock and would ship by Tuesday, by the time he finished his processing the space grey must have been sold out.  My family all got their silver, rose gold etc, but i didn't get my space grey, still back-ordered.

That's life, Exede plans are available and when they hit their limit they are taken down from availability and you have to keep what you've got until the resources are again available to allow you to move up to a different plan.

As stated above, when you see it available jump on it, because there is whole world out there interacting at the speed of light and if you don't move fast enough it may not be available again for some time.

Seen new plans in this area but I am on the 150gb freedom plan now I don’t see any benefits in upgrading other then if you go over your 150gb which we don’t. And until the new
satellite gets active I don’t see any faster speeds then what I am getting since I am on the 25 speed plan

I have the unlimited silver. We stream a lot, all in standard def. After we hit the 150gb for the month, they slow us down. Way down. Not just during peak hours as they claim. Netflix becomes unwatchable. Buffering is all we get on youtube and the spinning red circle is all we get on Netflix.

My experience in the first 2 days I've had unlimited gold is crap!!! Up to 50 mbps, now I understand it wont be 50 mbps always but in the first two days it ranges between 8-10 mbps. I feel like I was suckered into this 50 mbps plan when in reality its the same as the 12 mbps. And to call customer service is a joke because they tell me its a problem on my end. Thats funny because I just moved and at the last house I used the same equipment for streaming but had xfinity and my speeds were 120 mbps on the 100 mbps plan. I will defiantly be letting people know not to use viasat

I just switched to the silver "unlimited" plan, which still has 3x the data of my previous 50 GB plan.

This is going to save me quite a bit of money over having two different services, the 50 GB Exede plan and a 75 GB hotspot ($125/month for the latter).

A good thing too!

A $70-150 per month residential plans does not pay for the cost of ViaSat-2 ($625 million) or the $104 million in launch costs. Remember too that the satellite has an expected lifespan of about 15 years before it must be replaced.

To the above we also have to add in the costs of Gateways and the NOC's.

Residential plans just won't pay the costs.
